Subject: speed limiter to the test IP: Logged
Message: So I have owned my QC for about 7 1/2 months and just realized that I have never tested my limiter...
so leaving my job today, I figured I would take the waqy with a view and test it finally.
So I got 55, looked around for a police person (MP actually) and let 'er rip.
60...70...80...90...98???
Like the world just came to an end. Maybe I wasn't looking at the exact speed when it shut off, because it kinda startled me. Does this sound right?
I remember it being talked about several times, but I think I got jipped if that's as fast as it's gonna go.
(It's sure did get there fast though :)
2kQC, ARE tanneau, Flowmaster dualies(not sure what series, bought it that way... that's it :(

Message: 98 seems awfully low. Most guys have had there's kick in around 115-117 mph. I have had my 01 CC 3.9 4x4 up well over 100 but never hit the limiter. Not sure why it was shutting off at 98.

Message: Don't feel bad, mine kills at 99 too. (In a positive light - it keeps you from getting that 'Manslaughter' speeding ticket - go directly to jail for that sucker! - In TX anyway).
I think that the 4X4 trucks are the ones that are limited to 115/117 mph.
The 4X2 trucks are limited to 99/100mph. I think someone said it was due to 'driveline stability'.
I could be totally wrong here,,so if someone knows for sure,,,feel free to chime in! My buddy owns a 4.7 & 5.9 QC4X4 and they both cutoff at 115/117.

Message: Bill, I'll bet he has a 4.7 with the 45RFE auto behind it. Happens to me at exactly 98 MPH too. Yours is a 4x4, probably has the 115 cutout.

Message: And I'm not real pissed about the cut off, it's just that after I slowed back down to the speed limit 55'ish... I felt like I was going soooooo slooooooow :(
Why does my Dak tease me by putting a 120 in the speedO? Why oh why...
if you're going to do something, just do it... but if not, why lie to me DC? :(

Message: Well I bought my 00 Quad Cab 4X4 4.7L with the 45RFE tranny 355 gear ratio. I got it used with 20K miles on it. I don't know if the previous owner did something to it but when I tested the limiter, I passed the 120mph mark and kept on going.I still had space between the pedal and the floor but I was aproaching a speed trap, so I had to let go on the pedal and sure enough mile and a half later, a DPS was hidden between the medium bushes.
So I really don't know yet how much will it go, since I ran out of numbers. For sure I don't want to find out by being clocked by DPS. I could get an accurate reading but I could also get jail and a huge fine,je,je.

Message: Fred, there may be a good reason for that. We have a MY00 CC, 4.7, 45RFE that was purchased at intro in late 99.
1) It has never been back to the dealer for anything, we have all the maintenance done through fleet services.
2) I have been in this truck and witnessed 110-120 MPH sustained runs.
3) Because of 1), the PCM has never been updated.
4) I still think the problem is the driveshaft. It is the majority opinion here and both myself and my top tech have heard stories of driveshaft destruction on MY00 trucks "on the grapevine".
5) This same truck never got the "death flash". You cannot even dream of trying to launch this thing; all it does is light 'em up and when it grabs, hold on. Leaves my truck standing still.
6) I even got as desperate as borrowing the PCM from it. Pinouts are totally different, didn't work.
I just wish DCX would quit trying to mask a design flaw with the damn limiter and own up to their mistakes!!!!!

Message: My 2000 4.7 use to cut-out at 98mph (bucked like someone pissed in its cornflakes-thanks Alex). I got a Leach "flash" and for now, the speed limiter has been eliminated and according to Leach & Co, reset at 254mph.
Since I have yet to reach 254 mph , I can not tell you if if this is true or not. However, I'll keep trying to reach this lofty goal for the sake of adding my knowledge to this great Dakota website.
