For those of you considering a stick or auto, here is one advantage the automatic has: drving in sand.
I was 4wheeling on the beach this weekend on the coast of NC and the sand was so soft, the truck would stop when I would try to change gears. I had in in 4Lo and second gear up to about 2k rpms and could not get over 10 mph b/c it would stop between shifts from 2d to 3d. I did not get stuck but the engine got really warm working at that rpm in 4Lo with the A/C on. One time I wish I had an auto.
BTW, don't be lazy driving in sand, air down the tires. I was too lazy b/c there was no filling station prior to the road again so I think it affected my traction.
