Subject: Pinging ? IP: Logged
Message: I've got a '99 dakota 5.2(40,000miles) v8 4x4 that is pinging quite a bit. what's the best way to fix this( already tried higher octane fuel and new plugs bosch platnum 4)? Is this pinging harmful to the engine?

Message: Pinging is harmful to the engine. Maybe switching to a 180 thermostat would help. Try a colder plug range. You could run octane booster, but that gets pretty expensive. You could take it to the dealer, but they will most likely retard your timing (hurts performance). Make sure you are using quality gas.
