Message: It is possible to raise the torsion bar up a lil bit. It is also possible to twist the bolt the other way and lower it a bit? Also, is the bolt that you twist the one that connects the A-arm to the frame? Thanks..

Message: Well, I don't know what i'm talking about. lol. I know you can raise the truck by crankin the torsion bars. So I was wondering if you could lower by cranking them down. Does anyone have a picture of the torsion bars so I know what to look at? Thanks.

Message: Enter 'torsion bars' into the search window and go to the thread with the title 'Where are the torsion bars located?' to get a picture. And read all the other posts to learn more than you ever wanted to know about torsion bars.

Message: Thanks man. The picture did tell me where to look. After going through several pages and mofidying the search, I still couldn't find anything such as ususing the torsion bars to lower the truck an inch to two inches. I figured if you can lift them about in inch, it would be possible to lower.

Message: My fault, Chris-didn't realize you had a 4x4. (duh)
I don't know how far you can loosen 'em, but...maybe Rrrockhound has an idea on that.

Message: Most people with 4X4s want to raise their trucks, not lower them, so I really don't know if you can tweak the bars to lower it or not, but it stands to reason you could. Just remember you'll need an alignment afterward.

Message: So, I can't lower or raise the front end of my dak because it isn't 4x4? Only the 4x4 comes with a torsion bar? I didn't know that. My friend pointed out two bolts behind the wheels, in the center of the truck right behind the 2 a-arms, and he said they were the torsion bars. I don't know what else they could be. It was dark so maybe I couldn't see that well. Any Ideas?

Message: Chris,
Your torsion bars extend from the control arm to about the first quarter part of you doors underneath. If you look about where your mirrors are underneath your truck that is where they would be. If you have a 4x2 then you have a unique truck!

Message: Chris,
Do you have coil springs? Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have coil springs, you don't have 4x4. If you have coil springs, then whatever you're seeing, they aren't torsion bars.

Message: Chris,
Torsion bars are springs. Instead of using coil or leaf springs on modern 4x4's, they use a torsion bar. They do connect to your control arms and they run diagnally back to a frame crossmember. They are about 2-3 feet long and twisted to provide tension. They can be adjusted to change front height, but this will change the suspension characteristics as well as wheel camber. If you loosen the torsion springs, the truck will ride lower in the front, but the spring rate will be reduced some causing a mushier ride, and possible occasional bottoming. However, if your truck is truly a 2 wheel drive, you definitley have coil springs, not torsion springs.

Message: What is the maxxx anyone recommends torquing the torsion bars...
I raised my 2000 Dakota 1.5inch (front)
installed a 2 inch block (rear)
looks "Not Bad" but I would still like more height in the front...
Right now the rear sits 2.5 inches taller, looks very agressive...
Thanks

Message: A 2.5" rake in the rear of a 4x4 looks agressive? That's one look I'd try to avoid with mine.
Of course, with your rear end up in the air you'd always be going down hill... your milage should really improve.
