Subject: Driving with ABS IP: Logged
Message: Okay, here's a question:
How do you drive a truck that has rear ABS only? For a truck with 4-wheel ABS you just mash the pedal to the floor; for something with no ABS you pump the brakes. But what about something with half ABS half not?

Message: I have always heard (and this is what I do) is that even with the rear abs, mash the brake to the floor. Pumping the brakes won't do anything because the ABS in the back is doing that for you. The rear ABS will still keep you from getting too out of whack, so if it were me, I would mash the brake pedal to floor and let the ABS do the pumping.

Message: With a truck the rears will almost always lockup so much faster than the fronts that rear ABS is all you need to see a major improvement. Just drive like a normal brake system but don't worry about the rears locking up, the fronts can be used more effectively this way but they can still lock up.

Message: If your front tires lock up, you will not be able to steer. If you run into this problem, pump the brakes.
