AmsoilSponsor is right. I got an email back today from my friend at AC Delco and he confirms that the Canadian AC Delco oil filters are made by Dana corporation in Cambridge. Dana makes Wix, just like what was mentioned earlier.

I think dakota's are just prone to valve train clatter on cold start-ups, regardless. I used frams in my 89 buick lesabre from 60,000 miles till 200,000 miles, when i traded it for my dakota. Never had any clatter noises on start up. Then i got my 99 dakota and kept using frams and it would clatter every time. Then i found that oil filter study ( thank you, to whoever put that together), and found that frams suck so i tried the napa gold and the sound went away on startup although it still does it a little sometimes. So, i think its not always the filter, but the vehicle its on. Seems like on dakotas, if you don't use certain brands for certain replacement parts (filters, spark plugs, etc), they run poorly(clatter, spark knock, etc.). You get what you pay for with vehicles, too. (3.9's suck).

I work next door to AC/Delco Powertrain warranty center. When a Tech. calls in with a motor under warranty that has valve train clatter the first question out of their mouths is" What brand of oil filter do yo have on it." Last I checked I think they claimed that something like 64% of all lifter clatter was resolved by changeing the filter. That says alot.

AmsoilSponsor, here is a question for you? I grabbed a catalog at the Big East Snowmobile Show this weekend. Looking trough it I noticed that there are comparisons to other oils. My question is, why is it that the only oil that is compared to Valvoline Synthetic is Series 2000 Synthetic 20w-50 Racing Oil. Is it becuse Valvoline can't compare, which I find hard to believe or did it just not compare at all to the other products.

At my local auto parts store I came across several Fram filters with the exceptionally thick, quality looking filtering media.
The filter's plastic housings were displaying the "made in Korea" logo...

BTW those filters were substantially more expensive in comparison to the "regular" Fram stuff. Puzzled, I searched the net and found this Korean could be supplier.

http://www.ec21.net/co/k/kofiltec/product.html?grp=1&cid=1

I'm still puzzled. I haven't seen any reports mentioning those made in Korea Frams.
Am I missing something? Is this a truly new development?

Well, I don't believe what I saw yesterday. I walked into my local Advance Auto for some wax. I strolled past the oil filters, and there were Fram Racing filters on the shelves. Nice pretty silver box, and what got me was that there was an exploded view of the inside of the filter right on the front! All the way down to the Cardboard end caps!!! Right on the front of the Box!! Apparently, Fram beleives in that CARDBOARD end cap.....

99blkdak,

I just noticed you asked a question 10/22/2002 that I never answered (about three posts above). Here is the answer:

It is also impossible to list all the available oils in a small catalog, and I believe they are trying to relate comparisons that are between the same viscosity oils (except Mobil 1 which is 15W-50). My guess would be that Valvoline Racing Oil 20W-50 is well known, so it seemed logical to use it in comparison as the other viscosities aren't as popular.
