Subject: Dealership comment on Hemi in dakota!?!?

I was just at the dealership today looking at some liberties. I asked the sales person about if the hemi would be in the dakota. He said no way because dodge was having a hard enough time with tearing up the rear ends in the rams.

Well, i took what he said with a grain of salt. Just thought you would like to know and what everyones thoughts are.

Acutally, wouldn't the rams have a different axle because of the wider stance on the rams? Also, the buzz states that they are going from Dana axles to American Axle & Manufacturing. So maybe they were having problems with the axles?

Like you said Kevin, I would take that will a very large grain of salt. I don't know that the salesmen have as much of the "inside track" as they let on. I think we will probably all just have to wait another year or so to find out what will happen.

A slaesman will ALWAYS try and sell you what he has on the lot right now. Management doesn't even want him to know what is coming down the pipe. They teach that product knowledge is less then 25% of the sale, basically you don't need any to be a sucessful salesman. They can make as many if not more 5.7 hemis and they do (or did) make 360's. Wherever there was a 360 in the past is a good possibility to get the Hemi in the future. The current R/T rear end might need a little more beef to use with a Hemi but my bet it would be fine, especially with an automatic. Torque is the onlt thing that matters to how strong a driveline part is, it has nothing to do with horsepower and the hemi doesn't make that much more torque then a 360.

Like you said Hersbird, if the reliability is all about the torque, think about the cummins engines and the 555 ft/lbs they put out!!! These axles should have no problem with the hemi.

I used to sell cars and trust me, there is no inside line! Atleast not until the dealer shows that come out in that year, then the dealer comes back with some info, but other than that consumers are usually more educated than the salesmen.

OPINIONS ARE LIKE....WELL, YOU KNOW THE REST!!

I thinks it funny, i talked 2 people into getting a dakota at a dealership, and both went for the V8, and only one of thiem wanted 8 orrginaly. All i was doing was talking to the salesmen about the New body styling of the R/T and they walked up and started asking to me questions. I gave thiem so much info that the sales men, was standing there trying to butin and one of the People told the salesmen to buzz off cause he did not know Jack Schitt about Dakotas and Durangos. They got the daks for 100 over cost. one of the Custemers asked the Salesmen to go get the maniger of the dealership, and the manager Fired the Salesmen on the spot cause he was givig bad information on a top selling truck. I got a hudge hookup and a job offer that day.

Catch me come later!!

That's awesome Eddie. Sometimes I wonder what these guys have to prove to get their sales jobs. Used to be they could get away with it, but with the Internet now, people are coming in with a whole lot more info and know when they are being run around.

P.S. haven't seen you on AIM in a while eddie!

make an AWD R/T with a Twin Turbo 4.7 V8
the hemi is an iron block truck engine. its almost like putting a ram V10 in a dak.

The Ram V10 is sort of shared with the some performance car you might have heard of...Viper. Oh, but I guess that's just a piece of sh!t truck engine.

From what I've been hearing, Dodge will most likely replace the R/T in 2004 with a hemi powered Dak. I think they're going to call it the SRT-8....??

I read the hemi will be in the Dak for the 2005 model year which means, like jdub said, availiable in 2004. And yes I believe the name is going to be SRT-8. Let's see......save money for a 502cid corvette project or hemi dakota???????

According to the director of Dodges PVO program, the team that makes all the SRT products, the SRTs are not designed to replace the R/T. Just look at the SRT neon is still sold alongside a R/T neon. The big exception I guess would be the fact there is only one viper!
