Message: I am thinking about buying a 2001 Dakota sport quad cab. I don't know if i wanna spend the extra money to get the 4.7L, the 5.9L or if i want something 4x4. What is the best to get? any suggestions?

Message: You can get the 2.5 l I-4 squirrel power, the anemic 3.9 V6, or you can join us big boys in the V8 world. The 4.7 if you're not going to tow or haul heavy stuff, the 5.9 if you are, 4X4 if you like to go offroading or in snow, otherwise why spend the extra $2K. The overall cost is dependent on all the other options you have to choose from.

Message: The answers to those questions depend on where you live, what you are going to do with the truck and what kind of gas mileage you want. On the motor choice, you will find people to be pretty polarized due to the difference in the new tech/old tech engines themselves.

Message: 4.7 has more speed than 5.9 and better gas mileage along with a stick. 5.9 is better if towing or heavy hauling is more important than the need for speed or fuel economy. Word is 4.7 2WD 3.92 rear end 5 speed's are R/T killers when matched stock for stock.
Have fun mine is on order.

Message: Just bought a 2001 4.7 with dual exhaust and this truck is awesome! I also could not decide on a
4.7 or a 5.9. I have a 1999 5.2 Durango and the
4.7 would leave the 5.2 in the dust, and I am
sure it would do the same with the 5.9. GET THE
4.7 YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE POWER.
