Subject: Headlight wiring??? all hot, what the... IP: Logged
Message: I searched but didnt find anything that helped.
Hey i have a 2000 dak and i was installing a pre-runner bar with 150 kc daylighters, but the problem i came into with was the fact that all 3 of the wires going to the headlight are hot(do they cancell each other out and that is why they arent always on)but the problem is with the harness made to turn on when there is a hot line to it, means that the lights would always be on??
has anyone else ran into this problem or have any idea what i am talking about? or should i just run a switch(dont want to do)thx for any responses

Message: only two of those wires should be hot, the other one (green) is usually the ground side of the circuit.

Message: I couldn't understand the Dakota wiring on the headlights of my 2000 either. I was trying to install a headlight relay setup and brighter bulbs I had off my old grand cherokee. On the cherokee it was just a plug and go setup but it was all screwy on the Dakota. I ended up selling the relays on the Jeep webboard.

Message: ShiftRider:
I ran into the same problem when I installed aftermarket Fogs in place of the factories, I had to isolate the metal lights from the frame, you're right, we have constant 12VDC and the ground interrupts to turn the lights on and off.
2 choices completely separate wiring or isolate the lights
Hope this helps you out some
