Does not do anything-as others have posted, it wouldn't matter whether you had it or not! It either will, or won't do it, regardless of the baffle or not! My 01 came with the baffle, it's a cosmetic thing!-the baffle.
Most, as I, find using a good, REAL, synthetic (I use Mobil 1 Super Syn, NOT the TRI- syn!), and it seems to help.
Did you know that just because a can of oil uses the word synthetic on it, it's usually NOT a true synthetic?, only a modified dino oil!

I'm out in Austin by the way.
I'm going to buy a new factory unit ($150 from 4wheelparts.com - great price),,and then some 3.92's, or 4.10's. Can't wait!
I was in a pretty bad wreck a while back, and I always told them to check the diff. just in case,,they refused. So I'm going to drive it to $hitt, and make the Ins. Co. pay out the nose for it..... They've been screwing me over lately.
Oh-well.
Life's short :) Have fun!

ONE MORE TIME!!!!
THE BAFFLE WON'T CHANGE ANYTHING! IT JUST COVERS MOST OF IT! Get the baffle though, sounds like you think as though it actually does something to PREVENT the foam-it doesn't.
Do you inderstand why it builds up? Did you know other manufacturers also have this stuff happening sometimes?

No offense meant.
I understand the concern, I've got the 4.7 also.
B/C I live in a warm climate, use Mobil 1, and most of my commutes are 20miles +, I haven't had the problem with it, even under my baffle.

Message: I have a 94 V6 - 197k. No oil problems in the past, regular oil changes. Recently have had problem with oil pressure. After running the truck for only a few minutes the oil light comes on and the pressure drops. Clicking starts after several minutes. If I let the truck sit for a few minutes the pressure will come up and then drop again after a few minutes, each time taking less time for the pressure to drop (always with the light coming on about 30-60 seconds before the pressure drops). It is almost like the oil from the pan is being pumped up into the engine and there is sludge preventing the oil to come back down to the pan. Any ideas?

I live near Detroit so it gets cold as $hit in the winter.
Everytime I change my oil, I wipe up as much of the foam as I can. I use Mobil 1 Super Syn. every time.
I guess there is no preventing it from happening.

Message: The problem is that there are multiple issues here.
#1....foam in the oil filler neck/tube. This is simply condensation of the normal water vapors that are present in the crankcase air. The oil filler neck is a nice cool spot for it to condense.
#2....the only "consistent" sludging of the 4.7L V-8 has been found to be caused by inconsistent and/or insufficient oil and filter changes. The 4.7L V-8 engine is a good durable engine. It does, however, have a THING about it. It will NOT endure inconsistent or insufficent oil & filter change intervals like the 3.9L, 5.2L and 5.9L.
Do not get the wrong idea and think that I am accusing anyone of poor maintenance. I do not know you or your circumstances. I do know a thing or two about the brief service history of these engines.

Thanks Steven. Good Link.
What I find most interesting about the article is that only Durango's are mentioned, and only a few of the letters specify which engine. There were at least 4 engines in use from 1998 to 2001 in the Durango. Do they all have the sludge problem? What about the Dakotas, Ram's, and Vans that use the same engines?
