Well, the cams are in and everything is working great and I've noticed the increase in the low end more then I thought?!?! But there is one little thing i am having a problem with. When I first start the truck(cold engine), everything starts up fine, but when i hit the gas, there is a hesitation. The hestitation is worse the harder you punch it. Its like it is being flooded???. After about a mile or two of driving or engine warmup, everything is fine. When i did the swap, i also cut the battery so i know i cleared the PCM, so at this point, i don't know what to do???

Also, to everyone on this group, thanks. This is the first time i ever got this indepth into an engine, not that it was that indepth, but you get my drift!!! With everyones help and resources on how to do this, I could never have nor would i have known where to start. Thanks everyone:)

Give it time to adjust to the new cams and then see. Give it at least a couple hundred miles of all kinds of driving.

It takes about 220-250 miles or so to break them in properly (IMHO). That's about how long it took mine to break in (PCM and all).

Well, I installed them this past saturday. Since then, i have already put one about 350 miles. And for what its worth, about two weeks earlier, i replaced the plugs, which seemed to smooth out the idle. The factory ones were shot. The electrode was pratically melted away with about a .070 to .080 gap!!!. But I'll give it more time and see what happens. Thanks CW and DD.

I have the HO stuff and mine does the same thing. I have to let it rev a bit and slip out the clutch more... I thought it was jsut my clutch on it's way out but like you said after a couple of minutes it runs like a bat.... Hey it keeps me from pushing a cold engine at least....

try and clean the iac motor's needle and seat, while your at it, clean the throttle body, that might help with the idle. As far as hesitation, CW just told me that there is a flash that retards the timing a bit, but really kills performance. I have it to and like posted above after about a block, she's all better.

I may be doing the cams soon to, Hey CW, is the intake worth it? would you do it again? and what kind of HP gains do you think you got out of them (about)?

Are you guys talking about the Jeep HO cam set from Chrysler or the $199 cam set from KRCPerformance. What is the difference? Which is best for 4X4 (torque, etc) I'm thinking the KRC but I would like some input from you guys that have them. Have all you guys had the cold engine stumbling problem?

Any info would be very helpful in my decision making.

I experience the same thing on my stock 4.7 (intake and exhaust). When it's cold, and I get on the gas it feels like it's about to die. Like it's falling on it's face,,but then it picks up and screams!

Dr. Dr.,

You can save at least 80$ on that price, look at the archives and a Dodge dealer in R.I.

Shipped 122/$ to your door!, for the cams

I checked out the R.I. dealer and the HO parts (cams and intake) what a great deal...I wasn't going to do the intake, but at that price, now I'am considering it. Do I need a new intake manifold gasket or are these intakes on a o-ring? Are the valve covers on a o-ring too? How hard is it to change the intake?

I am not to sure how much peak HP you will see with the intake if any. The advantage is that the power doesn't drop off nearly as fast. Before the intake mine would start to drop off at 4800. After the intake it would rev easily to 5500+.

Dr, You don't need any gaskets. Everything has reusable rubber gaskets.

I haven't experienced any driveability problems at all after the install of the cams.

i am getting a dakota r/t in the next few weeks and i know they have plenty of power from the factory but of coarse more is always better. what kind of gains do you see. is it worth the headache with the install and then the price really isnt that much. really ill be replacing stock with no boring of any kind. does it make a difference without any of that?
