Subject: Engine light on (DC techs?) IP: Logged
Message: My truck has about 41200 miles on it. When I drove it home last night everything was dandy. I did nothing to the truck but park it and lock it. This morning when I got in and started it up the engine light stayed on. The truck runs fine, I didn't see any codes or anything, but its really annoying. Here's a few thoughts.
1) This morning was the first "cold" morning since I put in a 180 stat, but it was only about 48.
2) Friday I had some exhaust work done - but it was all from the Y-pipe back, so it shouldn't have affected the 4 o2 sensors any.
3) Bad me - I'm about 1000 miles overdue changing my oil because every day I've had off for the past two weeks its been raining. I don't know if the engine might have some sort of sensor that would pick this up or not.
Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer on this. (PS, I checked my gas cap, it was on tight, and turning it more didn't make the light go off.)

Message: Pull a code for it. Turn the key on three times fairly quickly and leave it on, on the third key on. It should display the code in the ODO window.

Message: The code that came up, is P 0442 - now, if you can tell me that it's not serious that'll rock. Thanks for the help so far.

Message: Just as I thought a leak in the evaparitive emissions system (gas tank vapors). Make sure the gas cap is tight. Take it in when time permits. It is a emissions thing, nothing to worry about.

Message: Thanks CW - Is there a locking gas cap for the dakotas? I have a sneaking suspicion that someone may have been syphoning gas out of my tank - or at least thinking about it. Last week one of my neighbors interupted someone breaking into his car (which as unlocked). I think its time to take steps to protect myself.

Message: Make sure the cap is non-vented. I think that mopar acessories makes one.
