Subject: 2000 4.7L Second O2 sensor?
IP: Logged

Message:
Can anyone answer a guestion about the sencond O2 sensor. The sensor behind the one and only cat on a 2000 4.7L.

Does this sensor effect the air fuel ratio? Or does the first O2 sensor only effect the air fuel ratio?

yes, the downstream 02 sensor reads the unburned hydrocarbons coming out of the cat. if you remove the cat normally it will set of the check engine light. when u remove the cat, all the unburned fuel goes right to the sensor and it reads a rich condition and the upstream 02 will try and compensate for that rich condition and cut back on the injector pulse width and slow down the fuel, which can result in a surging condition also.

slow2dak, did a great job of explaing it, but if you want to remove it, you can go to speedtweaks.net and pic up 1 o2 Sim. what this does is it plugs into where the o2 sensor plugs into the harness, and tricks the computer into thinking the cat is doing it's job.

You'll only need one and it goes where the last o2 sensor is.

go to speedtweaks.net e-mail Bernd and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help you out.

I want to remove it but i'm getting a kenne bell in March. If it will affect air fuel then I wont touch it. I dont want to get any "issues" with there tuning. I know about the cat box but I dont want to mess anything up.
