Subject: ignition modulator, 91/ 5.2 IP: Logged
Message: My Dakota has recenly started dying for no reason.
Does anyone know if this model has an ignition modulator? and If so where is it?

Message: have you at all adjusted the ditributor? If you have put it back to its original position. also take the key and cycle the key to the on position three times on/off on/off on. whatch the check engine light and count the number of times it blinks this is your fault codes. if you get fault 14 and 55 dont worry about them. ill do sime more digging in my service manual and let you know what i come up with. also if you could what are the symptoms?

Message: I will be driving along and the tach just drops to zero. I'll be coasting along, then the tach will come back up, and I'll just start driving again.
it mostly happens when it is cold.
I have checked it for spark, and there is none from the coil to the distributor to the plugs.
The ground SEEMS to be secure.
That is why I suspect an ignition modulator.
