Subject: 20's and speedo recalibration IP: Logged
Message: Ive checked out the archives and realize that the computer can be changed to different tire sizes however it has to be one of the available options.
Im lookin at 20's with 255/35/20 which are 27 inches in diameter compared to the 255/65/15's i have now which are 28.1 inches in diameter. Just wondering if there is an available factory option that would equal 27 inches in diameter. I know its only 1.1 inches but i dont like rackin up more milage on my dak then what is really goin on it. If been to a tire size calculator and thats how i found this info out. it says that with the tire change to the 20's it would be going 3.6% to fast. I guess that means for every 100 miles and additional 3.6 miles would be added on.
Also the rims im lookin at are AR Piranhas with back spacing of 5.5", and the offset being +19.
Wondering if these tires would be able to tuck?
thanks for your help,
Ryan

Message: the only thing you can do is buy the gear box thing that krc has on there website. its like $150, and you can program any size tire into it, and it will correct the speedo and odometer. the dealer cant help you.
i am running the 255/35/20 and i want the gear box thing, but cant bring myself to spend the dough. if i got it, i would put a huge tire size in it, like a 35x11.5R15 that way the miles will not rack up fast. hehehe...i dont really care about the speedo.
on your wheel question, they will stick out.. you need more backspacing.

Message: i had 5.75" of BS on my old 17" budnicks and they stuck out too far for my taste. the only way a 5.5 would work is with fender flares.
you migh want to look into billet aluminum rims. they are more expenive, but you can have them made to your specs, and if you ever bend one (you WILL bend one with a 255/35/20), they are pretty cheap to fix

Message: by using flares the tires would look like they are tucked under the fender when really they are only tucked under the flare? wouldnt this cause rubbing?
thanks

Message: it will probably rub, but not that bad.. mine rubbs a little, but it just depends on what you are willing to put up with

Message: your saying that by using 255/35/20 its really easy to bend rims? is that just the billet ones your talkin about? my first thought was to go with the 275/45/20 cuz of the nice price but i figured these wouldnt tuck and would cause rubbing with my 3/5 drop kit.

Message: yeah i was talking about bending billet rims. i have a friend with a 225/40/18 on his accura, and he cracked a cast aluminum rim.
the 275/45/20 would be WAY to big
