Subject: Brake Controller Question IP: Logged
Message: I'm installing a trailer electric brake controller in my 2001 Dodge Dakota. Everything is done EXCEPT connecting the red wire out of the brake controller into the "cold side" of the brake pedal switch. The instructions says to pick the "1 of 2 wires going into the brake pedal (light) switch" that is cold (not hot until the pedal is depressed) and splice the red wire from the brake controller into it. Well, the brake light switch on the back of the brake pedal on my Dakota has a connecting plug with (at least) four wires going into it. Any idea which wire is the "cold" one OR IS THERE AN EASIER WAY TO CONNECT to the cold side of this switch? Greatly appreciate any input to assist me in this issue.

Message: Use a test light to test each wire while you press and release the brake, that should help you find the right wire.
Z-Tube, R/T Rims, SSB Rear Disc Conversion, Alpine Head-Unit, Infinity Kappa Speakers, SilverStar Headlights, HO Cams & Intake installed.

Message: Robb - the wire you want is the white wire with the tan stripe. I just installed a brake controller about two months ago, and that was the wire I used.
