I got my 2001 Quad Cab on Monday and it took 3 days but I noticed that the bed alignment is off. There is a difference of about 1/2 inch on each side where it meets the cab. Now that I noticed it it's driving me crazy. I am bringing it to the dealer tomorrow AM but is this an easy fix? Will they be able to loosen some bolts and re-align it?

Do you mean the body lines on the box are about 1/2 inch higher than the cab? If so, I think they're all that way. Mine is.

Toss a little weight in the box. That'll squat 'er down ... hehehe

Sounds like the infamous bed/axle alignment problem with qc's. Let us all know what the dealer says. Many of us have this same "problem" and hope to find out why this is the case. The space between the cab on my truck is about a pinky less on the left side (3/8"). Right wheel about 1/2" further out from flare than left.

I wish I hadn't read this. My 2001 QC is off a quarter inch, too. Right side has a wider space than the driver side. Never would have noticed it.

My bed does not line up with the cab either I think it is tied in with the diff offset problem.I think they offset the box to try and centre the tires so the offset diff would not show up so much.My bed sticks out so much beside the cab that it picks up bugs and mud,one side only.None of this really bothers me I am the only one that notices it, but it is a strange situation.

Went to the dealer today and pointed it out to him. He told me he could align it to be close. He told me some trucks come in that way and he didn't see a problem to line it up. I will let you know what happens when I drop it off next week.

For the record : It's not just a Quad problem. I picked up my Club Cab today, and yes, the right wheel/tire is protruding about half an inch more than the left. What the "F" is up with that?!! This is a BRAND-NEW truck... custom-ordered at that! What happened to quality control?

Another thing : No under-hood insulation, as advertised in the DC brochure as being included with the SLT package. Dealer says : "Oh. Must be a mid-year change". No offer of compensation (but he was generous enough to give me the phone number to Chrysler).

Regional rep for dodge says mine has appearance only defect, said they would not fix at this time.
My right tire is 1 full inch off. My truck will not track, pulls to the right. In arbitration and I will let you know what happens.

I have a very similar situation as Russ.
The bed is sticking out a full 1/2 inch on the passenger side.
The left rear wheel is now starting to wear on the inside of the tire.
I'm taking it into the dealer next Wednesday, will post results of the visit. Hopefully this is not major surgery!
Darrell, what the Dodge Regional rep calls "appearance only" equals poor engineering and/or build quality.
I hope they don't try that BS with me...if they can't fix mine so it's straight with no excess tire wear then I want a straight up trade for a brand new, non-misaligned box CC SLT 4.7 4x4.
"Appearance only"? Pllleeeaaassseee!!!

while you guys are looking at the bed alignment, also check out the rear bumper alignment. Most trucks, not only Dodge, have an offset on both sides. usu. the gap between the body to bumper is diff. from the left to right. I noticed mine after i got dual exhaust installed, the mech. routed the pipes along the frame, so i know the pipe are not the problem, then I noticed the bumper alignment. A couple of friends that own other trucks i.e Toy, ford, chevy also have the same problem. I got the rear bumper brackets replaced, but to very little avail.

Well, the dealer is realigning the bed under "Customer Satisfaction" so I am not out any $$'s for this visit.
Strange but the front tranny seal is leaking...not "weeping" as they usually do but a full boar leak. New seal on Monday, apparently it is redesigned since my truck was built in Feb 01

Anyone having the bed "realigned" should make note that the cab is also adjustable. The things you learn when you talk to the techs!
Anyway, there are 8 bolts for the bed and 6 on the cab. Make sure they get torqued properly. Too loose and the bed and cab will rattle.
The CC sure looks sweet now that the lines are all straight!
Surferpug, I checked the bumper and mine's out a millimeter or less, hardly even noticeable but you're right, my buddy has a Nissan Crew Cab and his is out of alignment way more.

I picked up my 2001 QC in May, it also had problems with the bed (not to mention chipped fender flares that were replaced (pre-painted) before I took delivery, and paint overspray in the rear wheel wells)

They fixed the bed (also mentioned something about having to use new bolts) and also undercoated the rear wheel wells when correcting the overspray...check it out, there is no undercoating in the rear wheel wells, just some plastic skirts.

I have a 2001 dodge dakota v6 5spd stnd cab shrt bed. and I have done measurements on why my right rear tire sticks out. the welds on the rear axle housing are off by 3/4" to the passenger side, shifting the driver side tire in 3'4" and the passenger 3'4" out making it look like the passenger sticks out 1.5" and the driver side not at all. I have been through the dealer and am now talking to dodge directly. I WILL get my dakota fixed. Obviously this is not just one case that needs to be fixed.

Keep in mind that these trucks are put together on an assembly line. They are not perfect, no truck lines up perfect from the factory be it Dodge, Ford, Chevy, Toyota etc.
I manage a body shop and I get this all the time. Its kinda funny really, even if all we did was change a headlight, people want to know what we did to their bed. Cars are the same way too, take a good look at the gaps between your bumpers and headlamps, hood and fenders and doors etc. you'll see what I mean.
And if you own a silver, gold or a pearl white car, take a good look at the difference in the color between the plastic bumpers and the rest of the body. Thats how they come from the factory also.

I am glad I found this site. I wanna join! My '00 Sport QC has the bed/axle alignment problem, no pad under the hood, ordered the light package and guess what...no underdash lites or wiring to the halo lamp around the key! (My '97 Sport RC had NO lite pack but everything was there, all I did was put in bulbs.) Thanks to all you guys, the dealer replaced my fuel module AND rebuilt the rear axle on my '00 FOR FREE last week. I had 35,850 mi. and the in service date was 4/00. Sorry this is so long, but wanted to tell you guys THANKS for all the great info.

Hi!
I've had my 2005 Dodge Dakota for one month and when I pulled it into the garage this morning I noticed that there is now a huge gap between the cab and the bed. What happened? Anybody with some clues out there? First time owner of an American vehicle.
