Subject: E-mail Viruses? IP: Logged
Message: Not sure if anyone else has had this recently, but I got an e-mail message and it said it was from Bernd directing me to some Free Video games. The only bernd I know is from here and I am pretty sure he wouldn't be sending me an e-mail about that, so I deleted it as I didn't want to take the chance of getting a virus. Also, I got an e-mail message returned to me yesterday that was supposedly sent to someone on the boards, but I never sent the e-mail. So beware, somebody may have taken our e-mail addresses and is trying to infect our computers. I think the same thing happened a few months ago.

Message: Sounds like Bernd took the hit by one that replicates through your address book.
I've been getting a lot of attempts coincidentally since I joined this forum. A couple of times a week someone will send me a stupid e-mail about a game, an update, etc...with an executable attached. No infection yet, my AV has caught all of them but it really pisses me off. I rank virus bombing down there with keying someones car-pure chicken $hit!

Message: It's that dam Klez again Bill, like Lab Rat said, it's like the energizer bunny, LOL. Smart move on deleting it. I imagine plenty of people don't have a clue it's running on their 'puter, don't do virus scans or update their software.

Message: Yeah, I think for now I will delete anything I get from people on this site unless I know for a fact that they are sending me something for a reason. Certainly don't need a virus on my hands.

Message: Hey Bill, you've got mail.
Just kidding.
I tried to hide my address and it still shows. Also, I've noticed they all were masked by a bogus address but originated at AOL under almost identical I/Ps. Hmm...maybe time to ask Yates a favor.

Message: Thanx Bill, found a cool pic of 'Christine' on the web, figured it was time for a change.
Can't do much then, I guess, on the E-mail problem, just delete the crap. Good thing they have those stupid headers where you can figure out they are bogus.

Message: I got the Klez/Kernel/32 virus (whatever) last week but my 2002 Norton Anti-Virus caught it. Norton couldn't kill it but it was able to quarantine the damn thing so it could be deleted.
Just to be on the safe side, I had my friend who works at Computer's Plus come by and really give my PC an enema. He said this Klez32 B.S. is also called the "Trojan" virus.

Message: Its funny, I get somewhere around 42 virus infect mails per day. Sound out rageous? I get over 350 emails on an average day. Mind you, none of the virus's make a bit of difference to me, since I run FreeBSD[0]. I do try to keep a fair count of what's going around though by running a little procmail[1] scanner a friend of mine wrote up to count the files I recieve and sort them into separate "virus folders" for me. I know someone is harvesting addresses off this site, because when I started posting here, the amount of spam in my inbox nearly doubled, but oddly enough, the number of virus's I get only went up by about 25%.

Message: I forgot you also have to have another program running for the Norton to work, but the MacAfee will work solo.
