Subject: Hi-flow cat on 02 IP: Logged
Message: Is anyone running a high flow cat on a 02 4.7?
If so, did you encounter any problems with the 02 sensors? Thanks

Message: there is a o2 sensor downstream from the last cat. when gutting it, or taking out the 3rd cat, SOMETIMES it (the downstream o2) trips a code, and you get a CE light. this is where the kat box comes into play.
if you are just doing a high flow you shold be fine.

Message: I don't know what size it is, I was just going to go down to the shop and get an estimate and maybe get one put on. I thought the 02 had 3 cats, but when I look under my truck, I only see one tube besides the ones going to the muffler. So i'm confused?

Message: Chris, Look way upstream from the Y pipe.
They are called precats and they are just
below where your headers would be.

Message: alright bro, thanks. That totally cleared up my sudden concern. So I can get the hi-flo cat that sits right below the passanger side door. But the next question that I have is. If I get headers, this will replace everything down to the Y-pipe. so I will end up losing the 02 sensors? and then trip a code for sure. Or am i once again not getting the point?

Message: I just looked and there is an 02 sensor after the 3rd cat, and 1 before it.So if I go with a hi-flo cat, I wont trip anything?

Message: the only headers that are availabe are the shotys, which bolt up to the stock Y-pipe.
a high flow cat, should not throw a code. i have one on my 318, and its fine

Message: Chris - They must have changed something on the 02's then, becuase on my 01 the other day I spent quite some time checking out the exhaust system, and didn't find any sensors other than the four that are on the precats.

My 2002 has only one with the 02 sensors before and after. I don't know why the trucks are different.
