It kind of looks like it might have been staged. The reasons that lead me to believe this is the fact that there is no blood on the floor of the truck. At least not enough for a deer who has had it's belly sliced open. The debris on the roof of the Durango isn't consistant with a deer leaping into a window. My guess is that a tree large tree limb fell on it. You can see, on the passenger side floor (where the blood should be)that there is, what looks like, bark or wood from a tree.

Mighty does have a point. There dosent seem to be any blood on the dash or the remains of the winshield. Although there does seem to be a large amount of what appears to be dust (saw dust maybe?).

Now that I look at it again, you may have a point. I don't know what the point would be of going to the trouble of staging that though. Seems kind of sick to stage something like that.

Although, if you look at the picture, it is looks like they are in the middle of the interstate which would make staging it a little tough????

If you read that thread included with the pic it alludes that the deer was on a bridge(overpass) and got startled and jumped off (down) into traffic landing on the roof of the Durango. MN plates.
Talk about a super freaked out accident!

I say it's real, the deer din't have to be sliced open, it was bent over backwards and the butt landed on the center of the roof (spilling it's rectum there.) The back was broken as the deer was folded backward by the top of the windshield, an that pulled down on the roof. Once all the impact was absorbed then the deer could return to a semi-normal form and come to rest where it's shown. Maybe wee need CSI to do an investigation! Seriously I hope nobody was hurt. I hit an elk in a similar way but it was to big to actually go through the window. It folded down the roof like that but was deflected up over the top, there was no damage to the bumper, headlights, or grill at all.

Looks real to me, I live in ND and people hitting deer is pretty common up here, a couple of years ago we came across a lady that had just hit one like a minute before we got there. Small deer but it still totalled the car, smashed the hood and windshield and caved in the roof. The lady was lucky she was wearing her glasses or she would probably be blind, there was so much glass on her we were afraid to touch her, she was all cut up. The car looked pretty similar to that durango except more hood damage. By the way, if the deer was killed on impact he wouldnt bleed out, hardly any blood will come out if the heart has stopped pumping.

About 18 months ago I nailed a deer dead on with my 1998 Corolla driving on I-70 in Colorado... Luckily the angle of the road caused it to be somewhat crouched, so the front end absorbed the impact and sent it flying forward instead of up and into the windshield/roof. I smacked that sob at about 75mph and not a single drop of blood was on the car when it was all said and done.

The day after I had my final repairs done, a co-worker rear-ended me... 2 accidents in a vehicle is my limit, and the Toyota was traded in for my R/T. :)

I showed these pics to a friend, who is an accident investigator for a large insurance company.

According to him, assuming that the deer weighed between 150-225 lbs, it would have to have been dropped from over 80 feet, and the vehicle would have to have been doing at least 65 mph.

Also, he believes that the deer was dead for some time before it was dropped, as it had clearly showed signs of rigor mortis (lack of blood in the interior, etc).

He’s of the opinion, that the “sawdust” in the interior, may be glass, but admits its hard to tell, just going by the photo.

His main concern, was that if the above scenario where true, why didn't the airbags go off?

He's seen raised Durango’s that were "roofed" at 20 mph, and the airbags had deployed.

I would say it's kind of suspicious.

Neil, you do not require "bumper" damage to get an airbag deployment.

Massive deceleration, even for a split second, will do it, as the airbag system has an inertia sensor

Hey Guys,
I live in Minneapolis and while deer/car crashes are not an uncommom thing, a deer jumping off a bridge certainly is news worthy. I have not seen anything in the papers or the news in the past week. Also, from what i have read this happened this morning. It was 75 here today, hardly the weather for a jacket, and certainly to warm for snow (look at the 4th picture, in the woods). Im calling B.S.

Hitting the deer in that way would not deploy airbags. There would be no massive decleration hitting a 200 pound deer (I'd say that deer is actuall less then 200 pounds.) I'm not convinced it came off an overpass, as deer can easilly jump an 8 foot fence and so could have just jumped in the air (scared) just befor the impact and hit that high in the roof. Funny thing about my Elk incident... I live in Montana but hit that elk in California. Never would have figured it would have happened that way around!
