Subject: Paint chipping....anyone else?

I walked out to my 97 Dak this morning to find 2 quarter sized spots on the top of my cab, near the windshield, where the white paint has chipped off. As I looked at it closer, I saw that the paint was pulled up from the truck, and as I pressed down around the original areas, the paint chips grew to the size of golf balls as the paint chipped away even more. What I think happened, is that the spots started as rock chips on the top of the cab, and water got under the paint, making the paint pull away from the primer. I noticed a couple of rock chips up there 2 weeks ago when I washed and waxed it, but the paint hadn't bubbled up. We have had some heavy rains lately here in Alabama with the tropical storms coming thru. Now I have 2 nice looking gray spots on the top of my cab.

Anyone else ever hear of any problems with the factory paint on Daks? I was surprised at how thin the paint is on my truck that has flaked off. I'm just curious if anyone else is familar with this problem on Dakota's. Not that I can do much about it since it is out of warranty long ago. I guess I will just start saving my pennies and get it repainted, this time midnight blue. I didn't want white in the first place, but's that all they had in a 4x4.

Daktoas are well known for having thin paint. DC just doesn't put it on that thick.
