Subject: Squeek from up front IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 QC 3.9L. It has a horiable noise coming from the front end. I thought it was the ball joints so I went ahead and replaced upper and lower. Still doing it. It happenes when I hit a bump or when I turn the wheel from side to side at a stand still. I am lost. It is coming from both sides. I installed lowering springs while doing the balljoints as well. I don't like taking my truck to a shop because you never know who is going to be working on it but think i might have too. Does anybody have an idea what it could be? Oh yeah, I also greased and lubed the whole front end and didn't help any. Any help is great. Thanks.... Eric

Message: sorry... it is a cc. I used to have a 99 Ram and it was called a quad cab but was still just ext. cab. Also, from what i have been reading, it sounds like it could be my tie rod ends/. Could they make the noise when i go over bumps? Thanks

Message: I'm 99% percent sure it's your front anti-sway bar. My 2000 has done this problem on 5 seperate occasions. I have fixed it twice myself and let the dealer do it under warranty the other 3 times. Remove the bar, clean the surface where the bushings ride with a grinder, sandpaper, etc., then lube the bar and bushings generously with anti-seize compound. Reinstall bar and squeak should be gone. Hope this helps.

Message: nope... removed the sway bar, took it for a drive and same old noise. It is damn loud too. I can hear it inside the cab with the windows up and music on a low level. I am thinking maybe control arm bushings? anyone think they could be doing it?

Message: I have the same problem as I am sure many Dak owners have. The bump stop on the bottom side control arm might be bottoming out on the frame where the coil springs sit in. This happens to me in parking lot tight turns, speed bumps, and when i slam the front end over a bump. Hope this helps. Mine has been doing it for 117K.

Message: Look for a upper shock gromet miss seated and the shock bolt rubbing against the frame when you hit a bump. Usually just take apart, clean and reseat.

Message: Control arm bushings would be my #1 suspect. Rubber bushings are notorious for squeaking, especially as they dry out and get dirty, and Daks have a problem with control arm bushings. If this is what it is and you replace them, use some polyurethane bushings from Energy Suspension. Don't let the dealer tell you that you have to replace the entire control arm, it's not true. I've also had the seals in the shocks on my old Mustang start to squeak when they went bad.

Message: I agree with the Control Arm Bushings. I have the exact same problem with my 01 CC. I haven't had the time to get in there and replace them. I should this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Message: found it tonight.... I just came inside from working on it all afternoon and night andf it is like 1 a.m. Replaced the lower control arm bushings with no fix to the problem. Replaced the shocks with a nice set of toxic drop shocks for an S-10 actually. (they fit perfect... go figure). Replaced the tie rod ends... replaced sway bar bushings and end links. It turned out to be the new lower ball joint. I guess I just got a bad one. So, I took it off and first thing in the morning I am going to run up to the local parts store and get a new one. It was funny, it was really tight in the cup but grinded when i moved it around, and it had plenty of grease in it. Oh well, did a lot of stuff I needed to do while i was looking for that darn "Squeeeeeeek" Thanks for all the ideas...
Eric
