Message: Okay, I have a magnum 5.2 litre dakota, but what does "Magnum" actually mean? I know it is more powerful than a non-magnum, but what is it?

Message: it's not just in name. A lot of the parts in pre-magnum engines don't fit the magnum and vice versa. mostly tho it is in the heads and valve train

Message: The Magnum engine is quite different. Different heads, camshaft, etc. Also the magnum uses a roller cam and roller lifters. Installing roller rockers will give you a true roller engine. The fuel injection system is different. The magnum uses sequential multi-port, whereas the non-magnum uses a injection system on the throttle body.

Message: Hello Mr. Obvious,
But the 5.2L and the 4.7L are BOTH Magnum engines. So is the 5.9L. I'm not quite sure what your post was really intended for, so would you please clarify for us?

Message: I was simply wondering what the magnum name infers about the engine. I know that there were a few magnum engines in old dodge muscle cars, but I think that my question was farily well answered.

-Demon, you did make a post or two about the difference in the "New" vs "Old" technology.
Just take a look visually at the pictures below, you notice many differences that would imply a different family of engines.

There are probable more differences between the Magnum 4.7 and the Magnum 5.2 than there were between the 5.2 and the previous engine. Therefor Magnum is a name associated with dodge's truck engines. They don't call the 4.7 in the Jeep a Magnum.
