Message: Yesturday I had to take my wifes car in for service. The dealership told me it was going top be a while so they put me in a rental. The only thing they had was a 2001 s-10 ext cab with a 4.3
automatic. All I have ever heard from chevy fans was how awsome of and engine this was, but now from driving it my self I know the truth,it sucked!!!I was never so happy to get my wifes car back and give it back to her so I could get back into my own truck(2000 4x4 quad w/4.7 auto w/3.92),a real truck. All I have to say to chevy is better luck next time, and from now on my wife will drive the rental.

I have had 2 ZR2 s-10's want to run me. Lets just say that a 4.3 doesn't = 4.7..

Message: chevy make crap. THey present there cars nice buy decorating it with cheap plastic that creaks and grones. THey dont know how to build a heating fan that doesn't tick at low speed. There engines are designed to go through a muffler every year. YOu can allways count on them to start with one flip BUT THATS IT. Oxeygen sencers go. They have faulty limited slips that give out. The rear door handle on s-10 breaks and the seat can't stay locked in position. All the things up here happened to a 97 tahoe and a 2000 s-10 ZR2.

Message: I had a '98 s-10 before I bought my Dakota, and it was in the shop more times than I can remember, for everything from O-rings in the A/C and clutch, to the gear shifter. All of that was under warranty. I had to replace the brakes and the O2 sensor out of pocket.
I had the Vortec 2.2L and 5-speed, and when it was not in the shop, it ran for a 4 banger.
I love my Dakota and I would not go back to the s-10. However, there is few places where the Dakota gets beat by the s-10, 1. The s-10's A/C would freeze me out before I got out of the driveway, and 2. The gas pump (but I knew this one going into it).
BTW - While the s-10 was in the shop, the best rental car I had was the Dodge Neon.

Message: Man, I sure am glad I went with my second choice for a first vehicle. Even though I am ashamed to admit it,I will tell you that before I bought my 93 4x4 Dakota w/318, I was considering an S-10 w/4.3(didnt know a damn thing about trucks, motors,etc.). After hearing about all the crap about the gutless S-10(even though I was beat by one!) I am sure glad I went with the Dakota!
p.s.-Bernd, what kind of crap are the silverados known for?

Message: This rental only had 8700 miles on it,the interior rattled with every bump and the door panels and dash looked liked they were made out of the cheapest plastic they could find. This is the same things that were wrong with my wifes 95 Impala ss.When she had this supposed special chevy vehicle it was problems from day one, sure it was fast but at 40,000 miles the tie rods needed replacing, the door panels were falling off, there was a bad rattle from the steering wheel, and the rear end was leaking,I thought it was just a lemon but come to find out it was the norm for those cars after that I swore I would never own another chevy. But all thats left to say is Daks rule!!!!!!!!

Message: I have a friend with a 96 s-10 4.3 2wd,I think/know we are going to end up racing.I have got 45hp on him but I also have a cap 4x4 and a lot of weight.I think my 0-60 time is about 8.5 sec. He does not know what his gearing is.I wonder if that will be enough?

Message: I have a buddy who went on and on about how great it was. So I let him drive mine for a block, should have seen his face when he had to sit down (not step up like in the dakota) in his little 2WD Cheby.

Message: The 4.3 will thump a 3.9 Dak of course. The only difference is they think they are fast (laughing my a$$ off) while 3.9 Dak owners know they are not. Bernd of course is an exceptional case. V8 Daks however are in a class of their own. the Lightning is the only exception but boy that is one bulky looking truck. With the money saved on a Dak 4.7 or 5.9 a few moods and a supercharger will set the story straight and leave you with a nice looking truck.

Message: I had a 94 Lightning and I must say it was FAST! Too fast. It was scary what it was capable of and I never got a round to tweeking it any. For a truck of its size and weight it was quite nimble. Suprized quite a few camaro's with that truck.

Message: Yeah, the S-10 has nothing on a dakota. I work for a rental car company, and the only thing an S-10 is good for is a power brake burnout. It is kind of fun to drop it into first going 40+ and watch the rear end lock up though :)
