Subject: Over the rail or under??? IP: Logged
Message: Amazingly, the Dakota we ordered 18 days ago just arrived this afternoon!!! I plan to pick it up on Wednesday and have an appointment with Line-X for sray-on liner.
Question - should I go with over or under the rail? Seems over the rail would offer best protection; but how does it look? Anyone out there have an opinion on this.

Message: I was thinking about this too. To me it seems like under the rail, with some sort of chrome caps would look good. I dont know about with Blue tho, my truck is Silver. Thats just my $.02. :)

Message: I have a tonneau cover on mine so I went under the rails. I would, however, suggest you go over the rails on the tailgate no matter what you do on the rest of it. I'm always tossing stuff over the tailgate.

I went with under-the-rail on my '99 and it works fine for the occasional trip to Home Depot.
The only problem is when hauling plywood. The very corners of the bed have scratches from the plywood rubbing against it. I was smart enough to put padding there :-( The under-the-rail bedliner does have an "overhang" which protects the top of the tailgate.
Have you thought about getting a spray in liner? Very durable and just a little more than a bedliner. In hind sight, I wish I had gotten a spray in instead. They can do under the rail or over.

Message: I'm going under the rail with my Line-x. I put on some Bushwacker Bed rail caps. Look great!! They are black diamondplate plastic. They cover both rails and the tailgate. My truck is green and they match really well. My buddy's truck is intense blue and they really set his truck off.
