Message: Similar prob with our 98 Ram, turned out to be an ABS sensor located somewhere on the rear axle. $38 for the part, two hours labor. Go to AutoZone and get the codes scanned.
Gibson Dual Sport, AirForce One air intake, Jet II, IAT, TPS, when are we gonna see some real parts??!!

Message: I went to auto zone and the codes came out ok. the computer could not read the break/ABS lights. SO I think i will jsut change the sensor. How did you figure out that is was the ABS sensor?

Message: yeah-it might be the rwal sensor on the differential-I have the same prob right now-and i have another prob- My speedometer doesnt work untill i reach at least 20mph-the it jumps up-below 20-drops down to 0,I have also heard of people with the same problems as us-and the said it could either be the rwal sensor($20-34) or it might be a bad fuse. So-i would take it to the dealership and tell them to fix it(if its still under warranty) If not, invest in the sensor.

Message: As far as I understand it, if your ABS and BRAKE lights are on, and your speedo doesn't work under 20, then it's the speed sensor mounted on top of the rear diff. Apparently it's a cheap part and an easy fix. Haven't had to do mine yet so I can't say for sure. Hope it helps.

Message: similar prob, ABS/Brake lite on dash...but intermittent came on and went off. sppedo not affected. '98 Dak CC SLT 5.2-Auto
Speed Sensor on the rear diff, $40.00 part, $210.00 for stealer to replace...
Also 1 time came home and the rear brake lights were on.... it was the brake lite switch popped out of its snap in mount.. this switch is located under the dash, has aspring loaded switch the whe you press the brake pedal it turns on the brake lite, even when engine is off.. the switch snaps into a square opening in a bracket, cilmb under the dash look up near the brake pedal lever/arm adn the steering column.

Message: Just got back from the dealer and they said the hydraulic control unit ( I think that's what they said) needs to be replaced, dealer said it controls the ABS. They had to order the part, service writer told me he never saw this code come up before. Also just found out before I went that once you hit 36,000 miles you have to pay a deductible, my truck had 35,779 when they wrote it up. I know other people on my previous post about this subject mentioned a speed sensor could be bad but they said the rear-end speed sensor will effect the 0 to 15 mph reading on the speedometer and the sensor on the tranny ( if bad) effects the mph reading at speeds over 15. service writer said that's one way to tell what sensor is bad

Message: I replaced my sensor in the rear axle and the light still comes on. My speedo works fine and the "stealer", good one, said they replace both sensors when this problem happens. The other is located on the transmission and is also around $40. I will get one tomarrow and will cross my finders those light stay sway.

Message: re-read my previous reply, if the speedo isn't effected when the brake and ABS lights are on than most likely it's not the 2 sensors you mentioned, it may be the same as what was wrong with mine, the HCU ( hydraulic control unit) it controls the ABS, dealer replaced mine in 15 minutes and it cured the problem. The code for the HCU came up when they checked it also.
