Message: I'm the idiot who put the impact to the lug nuts and gave it everything my Craftman 6 horse compressor will give me. I have been putting on brakes and hanging parts on cars for 20 years and have never had rotors warp from doing this until now. I appreciate everyones input and will definite be more careful with the torque on Chrysler products. Thanks

Message: Just put my third set of pads and rotors on the Dakota. This time I not only put the FrozenRotors but had them drilled and slotted as well. The pads were the ceramic Raybestos. Had Pep Boys do the work and stood almost over them as they hand torqued the lug nuts. Seated the pads as recommended in another thread - i.e. 10 progressively hard stops from 60 to 20 each followed by normal accelleration. Now we will see!
Truck has 50K or so miles and I'll post the results as they come in.

Message: I am the original owner of my '99 4x4 5.2 Dak.
It has 55XXX miles on it. last month...I thought
I should have the brakes looked at because i
have never even replaced the pads and my
state inspection was coming up. The
mechanic told me I still had plenty of pad left
on the front discs ( 40-50%). I did however
have to get the rear cylinders replaced as they
were leaking a bit.

Message: Just changed my brake pads at about 70,000 miles. Only did it because of uneven wear. One right side caliper bolt was stripped and held the pads crooked. Still had 25 or 30 thousand miles left otherwise. Rotors are a different story. 3rd set of rotors at 70,000 miles and get them turned every 8 or 10 thousand miles. Will be looking for performance rotors at next replacement.

Message: I had about 105,000 on my Dakota before it needed brake work and I'm the original owner. The front pads looked almost 100% but the rotor wore down to the minimum thickness and one of the caliper pistons stuck and fried them.

Message: My 2002 RT has 17,500 miles normal driving and the brakes squeal like crazy when driving around town. They need to get hot before there quit. I am looking to upgrade the pads and maybe rotors. Any suggestions?

Message: Some around here like the Powerslot rotors but I prefer the rotors from FROZENROTORS.COM. Make sure they are slotted and drilled. I am just trying for the first time the ceramic pads from Raybestos which seem to be a consensus pick here as well. Pep Boys sells and installs the Raybestos pads and I supplied them the rotors.

Message: Drilled rotors on a truck is a very bad idea. Those things will crack like no tomorrow if you ever have to stomp on the brakes or do repeated stops.

Message: 2000 Club Cab Sport 4X4. Just replaced front brakes at 67,000 miles, rotors didn't have a mark on them. Pads may have had as much as 10,000 left on them just didn't want to push it any further. Rear brakes are still original

Message: First set of rotors at 7800 miles. At that time told pads were like brand new. At about 1900 miles a vibration when braking at highway speeds started again, but was very slight compared to the first time and has now mostly disappeared. I am wondering if some combination of light and heavy breaking that I did scorched away the surface imprefections or flattened them out a bit. Am now at 20,300 with original pads, new set of front rotors, and everything seems fine.
