Subject: Wiring Fog Lights to Work With High Beam
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone have experience with modifying their fog lights to operate with the high beams on a 2002 model?

I have tried the solutions posted here previously and while the fog lights did stay on.......the headlights went out when switched to high beams.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm looking to do the same thing Rjay. I've got some super bright PIAA driving lights mounted on a safari bar on my 2002 QC that are wired to come on with my high beams. I want all 6 lights on at once. Nothing will escape my view!

Hey LI Blackdak
Don't give people crap for wanting to change things on there truck. If you don't like it then don't comment and move on to another discussion.

I my self was wondering if it was possible.

Thanks for the e-mail Gentleman. As I mentioned, I tried this once before and couldn't quite get it to work. So I'll try again with your instructions.

It's nice to see that there are still some on this site that don't waste our time with B.S. comments!

FYI guys, in most states it is illegal to have your fog lights on when your high beams are activated. That's why cars with fog ligths on them from the factory have them set up to shut off while the highs are on. Just wanted to make you aware in case you didn't know.

Well I am not flameing anyone so take this coment as one of concer! What is wrong with wireing in a seperate relay ad switch to control the fog lamps. The factory switch and relay and wireing may not be able to take long term current draw that you will be placeing on it. If you simply wire in another switch and relay you would have total control of your fog lamps or KC light bar and would know that the wireing was up to par. The gentelman with 6 PIAA lights could then light them in phases. I see police officers in my state pull people over all the time for what you guys are doing and especialy inside city limits. I have to say I love it be the people that drive with six lights or brights and fog lamps are usualy the same people that forget that they are supposed to switch from bright to dimms when other traffic is approaching or within city limits. So if you do this please use it with respect to other drivers. My Dad has my 1,000,000 Candle Power spot light in his Big Rig. When knuckle heads refuse to turn their aux. lighting off he hits them with that and they get the hint real quick!!!!

I agree with what you said sandman. I bought a set of aftermarket fogs and wired them in separte of the headlights, but I am VERY careful of shutting them off when I have the highs on. Also, I have to remember to turn on the parking lights before I turn on my fogs as it is illegal to have fogs on when nothing is on the headlights. I HATE it when people ride with their high beams on when people approach.

Wow, I had no idea there were so many rules. I used to have Pilot Pro-Series lights and loved to drive around with just them on. Once in a snow storm I drove home with just my foglights(Headlights hurt more than help) parking lights and underbodies on. It was 10:30 at night. Drove right by a cop, didn't even turn on his headlights. The fog's were yellow by the way so there was no mistaking them for headlights.

dabart65 - couldn't get the files to post so I emailed them to you.

My local authorities say they'd be hard pressed to stop anyone for having fogs on w/ high beams.....but then I live in rural Colorado where you need as much light as possible to see the elk in the road!
