Subject: Front-end ticking sound w/ heavy braking IP: Logged
Message: Guys,
I have a '01 QC Sport w/ 4.7L. No front ABS. Everytime I hit the brakes hard (i.e. sustained firm pedal pressure), I hear a ticking sound in the front of the truck. The frequency of the ticks is very fast to start, but then tapers off, along with vehicle speed. Makes me think it's related to tires/wheels (i.e. they are what's slowing down).
Anybody have any thoughts?

Message: Well when I got my truck (used) from Shelor Motor Mile in VA. It made a strange sound from the FWD L/H brake. It dose have ABS so I thought it was the ABS. It turned out they had turned the rotors and just sit the caliper on, (no bolts) so every time you got on the brakes hard the caliper twisted and would get in to the rim, Wasted a good aluminum rim. Its the last time I get any thing from them.

Message: I have a 2002 QC 4x4 w/4.7L V-8. I also get the ticking sound when braking hard, as well as a pulsating sensation through the pedal. I assume that it's the antilock brakes (even though I didn't think the ABS would do anything unless I really slammed them on). The owner's manual mentions that a pulsing sensation as well as a ticking sound are normal under hard braking due to the ABS.

Message: I have experianced the same thing with my 98 CC. Was told by the dealer that the ticking sound is normal under heavy braking conditions. Part of the ABS unit.

Message: Interesting. It's normal w/ ABS, but I don't have ABS (at least not in the front - they all come with rear ABS). I suppose the control module for rear ABS only could be in the front, and that's why I'm hearing it there ...
Thanks for the input. I feel a little better that my truck ain't broke!
