Subject: Stupid Exhaust Question
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an 02 dakota 2WD. I have a split rear exhaust on it and today I installed a trailer hitch. I had to modify the tailpipes for the hitch and now my spare doesn't fit? I know they don't recommend this type of system for towing, but is there any way of getting the spare back into place? My only other alternative is to reintsall the facory system with a flowmaster. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you might have a gibson setup. You might try a gibson single, or if you're hung up on duals, you might look at mbrp. I don't know of any way to make the gibson work with a spare tire and a trailer hitch.

A couple of months ago, I remember reading a few posts from a couple of people who were struggling with this same problem. Seems like they either had to leave the hitch off or put the spare in the bed...just not enough room down there for everything.

Most companies that make dual exhaust for Dakotas will tell you that you must remove the spare on 4X4s. Because of this I bought a Gibson muffler with dual outs and took it to a local muffler shop and they had no problems getting it all to fit. I know you have the entire system but before you take it off take it to a shop and see if they can bend it out a little more for some extra space.
