Subject: Found a High TBN OIL IP: Logged
Message: I found an oil that is available almost everywhere and has a high TBN. While I am pretty much slod on amsoil I know some like to buy at retail stores so I keep my eye open for everyone. Walmart sells Rotella Synthetic 5W40 for about the same price as Mobil 1. I did some research and it is a Hydrocraked crude product not a true synthetic. It does have a TBN of 10 which is realy good. The only product that has a TBN higher that I am aware of is Amsoil. Rotella Synthetic is designed for extened drains in large diesel and gas fleets. It is typical for diesels that run Rotella Synthetic to get 1,000,000 miles and still be going strong. Most over the counter oils have a TBN of 2-3 at the most. Hope this helped someone!!!

Message: Sandman,
The Shell Rotella Synthetic costs $18.88 per gallon at the "Evil Empire" (Wal-Mart) and it has not been out on the market long enough for an engine to reach 1,000,000 miles yet.
I use the AMSOIL 15w-40 Diesel/Marine Engine Oil in a lot of my equipment and it has a track record that pretty much can't be beat. It costs me about $13.00 per gallon as a Preferred Customer and that is a $25.00 savings on four gallons.
I do not change the oil in my diesel engines with the AMSOIL, I do oil analysis and if the oil is found to be suitable for continued use then I change all of the filters.

Message: Rotella Synthetic has been out for a while. It just has not been available to non- fleet user very long. It was also not marketed very much her in the USA. Shell has used this same formula under a variety of names. THe base stock is the same base stock used by several other companys includeing castrol syntec. Shell is one of the largest Hydrocraked supplier in the world. I am just woundering how their additive package stacks up against Amsoil. I started out by telling everyone that I am pretty much sold on Amsoil it just came out as "slod". Alot of people have expressed a need to be able to buy their oil over the counter and not mess with Amsoils dealer "net work" or have to pay shipping and handling on their orders. $18.00 a gallon is on par with Mobil one which was my origanal point. I doubt that Mobil 1 has a TBN of 10 and is not marketed for extended drain. Now the Mobil Delvac might be a different story. I like going to Mobil 1's web site like I like going to the dentist so someone else will have to find out what their TBN is. I am considering takeing a sample of from my Mothers truck and getting it anylzed(sp). I doubt she will let it go one mile past 3000 so we will see.She has Rotella 5W40. I am curious what the lab results will say. I figure the only way to prove if Amsoil claims are true is to back it up with lab tests. I am practiceing what I preach. I also figure that useing her truck and my truck would double the sample size. The fact that hers is a Toyota and mine is a Dodge should also prove insiteful. We will all get to see what the normal values are for each vechile when the results come back!!!!

Message: Sandman,
I love the fact that an AMERICAN company has such a wonderful product! That is just one of the reasons that I buy through the AMSOIL dealer network and help support AMERICAN families and not the AMERICAN hating "TOWELHEADS" of Saudi Arabia,Iran, etc.
I know an AMSOIL dealer who had a sign made up that read " No Iran, No Pakistan, No Taliban in our can".
America needs to end it's dependance on foreign oil ... am I right ?

Message: Dr. D you should realize that the "Seven Sisters'" of the
world oil industry have many strong ties with Middle
Eastern countries. Five are American oil companies by
the way.
Opec is a cartel the same as US oil companies are a
cartel, setting gas prices not on supply and demand but
at whatever they feel.
If you look closely any investigations of price fixing on
gas prices have mysteriously been dropped by our own
government. Politics at work as usual.
The Caspian Sea basin and Afganistan has the worlds
second largest proven reserves of oil after Saudi
Arabia. Hmmm, wonder why we just took over that
place and installed a puppet government?
