Subject: Homebrew cold air intake results IP: Logged
Message: Just thought I'd share this. I am nearing the end of the first full tank of gas since I installed my homemade cold air intake and am seeing a noticeable improvement in MPG. Before the intake my max range was 312 miles. With the intake I've already hit 350 miles and can probably go another 20 before it konks. I'll work up the actual MPG tonite and post that as well. I'm hoping once I get the Dynomax muffler installed that the MPG will continue to improve. I'm also relocating the IAT this weekend so maybe I can max out at 380 miles?? Man, that'd be something!!!

Message: Yeah, I guess giving my truck specs would help, wouldn't it! She's a 96 Club Cab, 2WD, automatic, 3.9l otherwise unmodified engine. I should also state that 1/2 the mileage was highway and 1/2 suburbia. I ran the numbers and it went from 13 mpg to 19mpg!!! That doesn't seem right. Maybe I subconsiously mellowed out my driving to enhance the numbers. But, 18.4 gallons took me 351 miles! Shweeeeet!

Message: I thought the V6's got better gas milage then that. I guess with the heavy truck it is low. On my QC 4x4 4.7 5spd 3.92 and stock tires, I am at close to 19 mpg. I can go over 400 miles on a tank but the QC has a 24 gallon tank.

Message: I have tried just about everything I have read on this board and I don't seem to get anything better than 14 miles to the gallon.
I have spoken to people who have Chebbies and for some reason their V8's do better milage wise than my Dak does. Pretty sad....

Message: Boon,
Can you explain how moving the IAT will hurt MPG? Everything else I've read on this board states that it increases fuel efficiency. I tink Bernd wrote up a good response to similar question. I'll see if I can find that and post it but I do want info from all sides.
Thanks!
