Really depends on the GTI. What motor, are we talking 1.8T pre or post 02' or are we talking the 2.0? The has been done to it? If it's an 02' 1.8T with mild mods i think it would be a rather close race, especially with traction control and a manual box. It is possible to get very similar HP and Tq out of those as the R/T for not much money. Some place to check for specs is www.vwvortex.com

ok its a 1.8 gti with tiptronic and i believe its a 2002 model.

In 2002 they raised the boost to get it to 180 hp. It's a pretty light car and for around $500 you can have it chipped and making something like 220hp @ 250ft/tq. It's pretty unreal. A freind of mine has one and it's a mean little ride. If it is stock though you may very well have it beat.
