Hey Everybody,
My A/C quit working and I was wondering if there are any common problems I can check before I take it somewhere to get it fixed. The moter still blows air, just not cold air. Thanks..................JC

You had a leak for sure. You'll have to take it in and get new refrigerant, and a new part, whichever part is leaking.

My evaporator (in dash not under hood) leaked on my 97 CC 5.2 at about two years. It took them two tries to find it but has worked great since. Pat

i have a 98 club cab, 2.4l and have a/c problems, i had it repaired onec, they did a switch, clutch/ low pressure cycling test and replace b and switch-a/c cycling. I can get the blower to work, but when i went to put new refrigerant in the compressor i thinks thats the name of it , does not turn. I was wondering if anyone could have any suggestions. I also dont have any power to it, only when i hook up the negative with test light it shows power. I replaced all the relay switches. any info would be great

If you all are still having problems with your AC here is a little info. Buy a Test gage/refill kit(about $20) which has a gage, hose & fill valve. Connect to the low pressure service port near the passenger side fender wall, not on the compressor. If the charge is below 20psi, the compressor will not run. Buy a can of refridgerant with leak detector and put it in, once the PSI level gets high enough the compressor will start to run, first on and off quickly then run normally. You may even need two 12oz cans. Hopefully, you will see the dye and or some compressor oil leaking around a fitting or hose somewhere in the engine compartment and this will be where the leak is. You can buy stop leak for AC systems but I haven't had any work very well. Most likely you will have to replace the leaking part(s). If you don't see a leak out in the engine compartment or on the condenser at the radiator, then the leak is most likely in the evaporator. In this case you may notice an oil smell in the cab and the evap core needs to be replaced. My 95 SLT CC needed a plate/fin evap core. Not the generic serpentine type that Advance or AutoZone sells. I had to really hunt for the right evap core, dealer wanted $300. I found it at a parts distributor for $189. Napa has it for $159, but will need to order. Replacing the evap core is basiclly the same as replacing the heater core and not for the mechanically challanged. By the way, replace the heater core while you have the heater box out and the receiver dryer locater on the passenger side firewall. It's also a good time to replace any radiator hoses and the thermostat as you will have to drain the coolant. I guess I saved myself at least $500 by doing this job myself.

You can buy test gage, stop leak and refridgerent at Wal-Mart for 134a systems. If you have an older Dak with R12, plan on buying a conversion kit($50) and converting it to R134a.

My 1999 SLT Dakota 4x4 5.2 A/C went out this week, the truck has 92000 miles on it. The evaporator is the problem. Will cost about $500.00 to get it fixed. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have a 92 Dakota that runs great, but when the
V-6 motor goes over 2000 rpm the blower motor on the ac & heat goes off. When rpm's drop back below 2000, it comes back on. What the heck is going on??

Your 92 dakota has a vaccuum leak somewhere. It could either be a damaged vaccuum hose, vaccuum connection, or any of the parts attached to the vaccuum system. I have an 87 dakota that did that exact thing, and it was old connections that were leaking. good luck, it can be tricky to pinpoint.
