Subject: Front air dam replacements? IP: Logged
Message: I need to know what options exist for replacing the front air dam (the little thing under the front bumper that you can mount fog lights in) on a 2001 dakota. Mine got hooked over a retaining wall I was parked in front of yesterday and ripped off, and it looks like most of the plastic on the front end (wheel wells, etc) rely on the air dam being there. Am I going back to the dealer for a high cost refit of the same piece of plastic shnitzle, or is there something better out there?

Message: Try E-bay... I see them on there all the time. Usually go for $75 to $100. Do a search using "dakota front" in Parts and Accessories.

You can get factory-style replacements from E-Bay, or you can get one of the aftermarket models from Stillen, Wings West, Xenon, or EastCoastCustoms.

Message: Outstanding, thanks guys. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know if there is a heavy duty aftermarket bumper made that would replace the chrome and the air dam? Something with tow hooks, etc, that I wouldn't have to worry about getting ripped off?

Message: I haven't seen any companies making a lower valence that doesn't replace the upper bumper as well. The 5 main bumper covers overlap both.

Message: According to the guy I talked to, the xenon viper kit will bolt right on to the factory bumper and replace the stock air dam.

Thats a chrome valence. Personally I went with the Hanson bumper as a total replacement. Three weeks, and no more plastic on the front end.
