Subject: Breaking in the motor?

Took the plunge and bought an 2002 QC with the 4.7L/auto and I am used to driving easy for the first 1000 miles trying to change the rpm's(relative to speed on the highway) as much as possible even if it means getting passed by grandma....but I look in the owners manual and it says 300 miles is sufficient and to nail it every once in a while on the highway, any insight?

Biker,

I picked my Dak 4.7L up at Bremmerhaven, DE (Germany) and drove it back to Frankfurt, DE 355 miles. I got the vary the speed and nail it for the first 300 miles from the guy at the port.

Needless to say i varied the speed, 85 mph to 115 mph (speed limiter stop) all the way till it had 285 miles on it. For the remaining trip I held it right up against the 115 mph speed limiter (like 114 mph) as traffic permitted. I now have 8,000 miles on it and drive it every day about 40 miles round trip to work and back at 120 mph cruise speed (Kenne Bell Optimizer II PCM Flash) and it is running great.

I suggest breaking it in like you are going to drive it. Check my link below to see the truck and the Mods I've done.

Bill,

I wish you could also. I will be back in the good old USA in a few months and I'll have to change my whole way of driving, and that sucks. I have gotten so used to driving 90+ that when I'm doing 75 it feels like I'm walking, uh.
I wil more than likely get about 2 or 3 100+ speeding tickets before I adjust back to the 'walking'.
I hope the State of Colorado is pretty Lenient on high speed awards, or at least the Law Dogs. I will hand them my European Drivers License first and then my Colorado License and see what happens

I don't know that you will have the oppurtunity to get "2 or 3 100+" speeding tickets. After the first one or two they may haul you in to court and let you literally walk around for a while with no license!

I bet it will be really tough you for you to adjust, probably better that I never got to drive that fast on a regular basis!

the worst part is that at 120 mph I have to stay in the middle of the road to keep from getting run over. Had a Ferrari GT40 go by me the other day and nearly rock me off the road, and these and the LAMBO's you here coming up behind you for a half mile. Sounds like 2 or 3 SUPER BIKES with open headers racing up behind you.

I've had my truck to about 112 and that was fast enough for me. Probably take some serious getting used to having those cars whiz by you when you are going that fast in a Dakota. I highly doubt my Dakota will ever see those roads, but it would probably be fun if I did!
