Message: Alright, I finally got my Dynomax Super Turbo kit on. Not nearly as loud as my glasspack with dual tail pipes. I do have some power back that I did loose with the old set-up. One of my questions is that the local muffler shop put the Super Turbo on completly back wards from what the instructions show. Don't these mufflers flow both ways? And, most impoartant, I have a rattle that gives you the biggest headache. Nothing is welded, so it can't be a broken weld. My best guess is the heat shield, any suggestions?

Message: Oh yeah, the muffler has the inlet in the center and is outlet is offset, the opposite of the instructions.

Message: Had a RX-7 once that I drove for years and it had a rattle that hit under certain rpm's 6-7000+, Did'nt find it untill a week before I sold it....it was the heat sheald. Also have a jeep where the exaust saged a little untill one day it started hitting the cross member, what a racket that made.....my point is to check it out, have someone rev the engine while you track it down, look for parts that are too close.....ect good luck

Message: And find a new muffler shop!
I agree, crawl underneath there and take a peek. If it's rattling that bad you should be able to track it down pretty easy.
Good luck!

Message: Yeah, the exhaust shop that did the job custom made my duals a year ago. They weren't too happy that I wanted the Dynomax in place of the duals. I told them that I "sold" them to a friend. The rattle starts at 2000 RPM's and gets louder at higher RPM's. And it's only loud when it's in drive. I took a look at the heat shield this morning, the shield above the cat to the muffler was a little loose so I tightend the bolt for it and it only spun in place. Could that be it? This thing is really pissing me off!

Message: Press a little RTV in around the bolt. If that is it, that should shut it up.

Message: Does that heat sheild have to be there? Man, the warmer the exhaust gets the louder it gets. If I did take it off, would I have to worry about the cat warmer anything a little too hot?

Message: That is the one heat shield that I would leave in place. The cat gets pretty warm.
Did you try to remove the bolt altogether? If you can get it out then you can replace it with a larger one. Maybe putting a nut on the back side and tightening the whole thing up. Gotta be a was yo shut that thing up.

Message: Tyler,
That rattle might be the heat sheild above your dakota, all you have to do is tighten a loose bolt if thats the problem. The heat sheild was the problem with mine, it was just a crossthreaded bolt. Do not rip the heat sheild off though. As for the duals, there aren't many kits available for our Generation 2 daks. When I had duals on mine they were custom made with a glasspack, don't ever get a glasspack. Ahh, Truckpefromance.com does have a duals kit for my year, should be the same as yours. I think it is a pacesetter. I would go with the pacesetter because a lot of shops that custom make exhuast don't mandrel bend the pipes. If you have a shop put them in, have them check out your cat if it is not a heatsheild.

Message: forget the heat shield bolt, get a larg hose clamp to go around the shiled and cat, maybe 2 clamps. I know ford makes one that will fit if you cant get them after market, I use to stock them and sell them to the local shops when I worked for Ford a dozen at a time, cant remember the part number though as its been a while .
