10,000 miles and I have the first problem with my dak. The front shocks are leaking. The right front is really bad. Oh well gives me a excuse to upgrade but don't think I can afford it so stockers will be going on under warranty.

Hehe yeah a little offroading.;) No I drive pretty aggressively but I leave the offroading to the 4by guys. I have a set of procomp es9000s for the rear nad they were so stiff that I had to wear a kidney belt. I want something better but not that stiff. No propor application for this new of a dak either.

Changing those should be no problem for you CW. I spent an hour and a half trying to get the top bolt undone on mine, plus used all the multiple compound swear words that I know before I gave up and bought some vice grips. Still haven't gotten around to changing them. :)

What kind did you buy Lesley? I am looking for options for new ones as the stockers are obviously not very good. These ones lasted 9 months.

Curt,

You know for the roads in Canada them shocks had a good long life. If it'd been any thing other than your BABY you'da never noticed the shock leak till it started bouncing 8 or 9 extra times after a bump. ;)

If you are like me you more than likely walk around under it as much as you do beside it. My truck thinks it's on drugs as much as it is HIGH on the lift looking for better ways to make it go.

Well Good Luck with the next set,

CW-

10K miles is not very long for even a factory shock. Are you driving through bomb craters up there?..hehe Luckily the warranty will take care of it. In case you get a few extra bucks, I found this site and their prices aren't too bad. Sorry to hear about your shocks.

I got a set of Rancho R5000 off ebay, believe it or not I paid $25 for the set, new, still in the box. They weren't my first choice for shocks, but the price was right. Apparently they are pretty stiff, hopefully I will get them installed soon. I'm still in Texas until Sunday (man, I cannot BELIEVE the prices of parts here)and Bill Thompson has my truck - it is getting a new stereo put in it. I'm going to try to get the shocks done this week.

The prices are great here! Even allowing for the dollar difference. The chrome Lakewood traction bars that I paid over $100 with taxes for in Canada are only $29.99 at AutoZone. I picked up a torx 60 bit in Canada for $16.99 (it works better than the key for my locking lug nuts)and Pep Boys has them for $3.99. The selection is good too - Canadian Tire is getting better, but with all the numerous AutoZones, Pep Boys and O'Riley's they have down here, you can find just about anything!

My stock shocks didn't even last a year...don't suppose it helps that I've got ~250lbs worth of brush gaurd & winch hanging on the front end. At any rate, I ended up going with a set of Ranch RS9000's. Love them!! However, I think I'm going to have to get the local off-road shop to fabricate a dual-shock hoop for me, as my front ones are starting to eat the bushings.

As for the installation, the most valuable tool in the world for swapping the front shocks on our rigs is a good ol' fashioned strap wrench! I've got an old cast iron handled model that my grandfather used on his Model T. Not only does it work for oil filters, but it does an awesome job of holding onto the shock body when you are tightening/loosening that top bolt.

Incidentally, Sear's sells a couple sizes of strap wrenchs. A set of two (small & large) are about $20 (part number: 945530000). Just cruise over to Sear's, or hit them online: http://www.sears.com/craftsman.

Yes I do infact get paid to work on my own truck :). I just hated the feel of the stockers from day one and then they only lasted 10K so I was a little pissed but not bad. It will only take a 1/2 hour to change the both of them.
