Subject: what are your predictions??? IP: Logged
Message: Alright, it's a fact that we all want to see the new hemi get an additional 200 hp and dropped into our dakotas...But what really do you think will happen in the next couple years.
I think it may change body style in 2005 to match the ram like it did in 1997, then I'm sure it'll make it's way to looking like the M-80 when we're older and the designers are looking for the younger consumers who actually like it. But I think as of right now the M-80 is too much of a design change. I'm also thinking in 2004, 2005 at the latest, they'll put the hemi in the dakotas, but again just a prediction

Message: I just got done reading a great article about the new Ram 3500 with the Hemi in it. Motor Trend really liked the engine and the truck. Didn't mention anything about the Hemi coming in to the Dakota, but I gotta believe that if they can squeeze it in there, they will find a way to put it on the market. It just makes sense to me to do that, but what do I know!!!

Message: We know for a fact the 5.9 is going away. I don't think DCX would be foolish enough not to at least offer it in a future gen R/T. Maybe time to send an e-mail to one of their platform engineers...

Message: Muzzy gets elected as president in 2008. Middle east somehow becomes radioactive parking lot. CARB and CAFE restrictions lifted by executive order. New law requiring all auto manufacturers to produce at least 1 muscle car model. Speed limit eliminated on all major highways......(yawn)..oops, I must have been sleeping.

Message: I have to go with MLP here. Everyone knows the Durango gets a makeover for the mid-03, whether it's actually the 03 model or the 04. At any rate, I've been saying for months (because I read it somewhere that seemed reliable, and no it wasn't a web site) that the Dakota is getting a make over in 04. Look to see the 5.9 fade away in 04 too. I don't know what they're going to do about an "RT" at that point, but I will be able to prove in a few months that the 4.7 can make gobs more power than it is stock.
We know they've done away with the 4 cyl. for 03 as well. That leaves the 3.9 and the 4.7 for sure, and for 03 it leaves the 5.9 and the 5.2. Does teh 5.2 go away with the 5.9? If it does, then DC ends up offering the Dakota the same way everyone else offers their small trucks - with two engine choices. Of course we get a 6 and an 8 instead of a 4 or a 6, but I'd still feel ripped off. My gut tells me you will be able to get:
3.9: any cab configuration, all drive trains (auto, man, 2/4 wd)
4.7: same as the 3.9 with the addition of full time 4wd to the drive train options.
5.7: for 04 as an RT replacement in RC 2wd and a QC with full time 4wd. All trans. will be auto.
These are only guesses, but they're semi-educated and thought out one's. Its been on my mind for a while. Anyone care to comment?

Message: I don't know - it looks like DC has several 6's under the glass right now - I don't know if they're looking for a replacement, have one, or what.
