Subject: Coolant Loss IP: Logged
Message: A couple of months ago, my truck dumped a bunch of coolant all at once. I refilled the system, and everything seemed fine. Paranoid, I took the truck to the dealer for a full system flush and fill for the winter. They susposedly did a pressurized leak check at this time. Everything was fine for a while. I now am low on coolant again (can't see it in the rad and overflow bottle is empty). Has anyone else had this problem?

Message: The first question I have is: Did the dealer fill it up all the way? Did they warm it up and get all the air pockets out after the flush and fill? My suggestion is to top it off in the radiator. Fill your reservoir bottle to where it should be and keep an eye on it. Also keep your eye on the coolant temperature gauge. It may not necesarily overheat, depending on the type of climate you're in, but it should rise enough to notice if you lose pressure in the cooling system, e.g., a bad radiator cap. The other thing to keep an eye on is the little weep hole in front of the water pump. If you notice coolant leaking from the hole or if you see telltale signs that it has been leaking then you have a water pump that will fail sooner or later. You don't state what year your Dak is so if you're under warranty and you see these things get them fixed. What may not overheat now will probably overheat come summer.
