Yeah, in some instances they smooth the idle and improve power. They usually don't add power, they just make what you have more usuable. They improve throttle response, etc. Most people on here use the Autolite 3923 plug, which is one heat range colder. I have used these, and prefer the one heat range colder NGK V-Power over the Autolites. I still experienced some rough idle with the Autolites, and it disappeared after installing the NGK's.

Yes changing plugs will help, whether its replacing plugs that are old or switching to a different plug design. However some of these "performance" plugs are too expensive and not really worth it.I say just get a good set of regular or double platinum autolites. They will give you reliable performance and a longer lasting center and ground electrode which will in turn give you a longer lasting gap.

Ok, it seems the autolite is popular one. How much is it and where in the engine is it and how do you install it? How many do i need? I have a '98 Dak, ext. cab, 3.9L, V6.

Hey Drew,

Sounds like you are new to this truck stuff. Having a V6 you will need 6 spark plugs, one for each cylinder. You will see three spark plug wires on each side of the engine. If you pop one wire at a time, you will see the top of spark plug. You should have a special spark plug wrech socket (it has a rubber gromet in it so you don't damage the plug) to remove the spark plug. Once out, just put the new one in and tighten (not too tight!). Repeat for each of the other spark plugs. Not hard at all.
