I was wondering if anyone had ever replaced the IFS of older dakotas with a straight axle. If not, is it possible? I'd appreciate any info.

I haven't done it, but would checkout a Grand Cherokee Dana 30 or 44. Should be close to the same track width. You know you'll have a lot of fabrication to mate the new axle to the frame!

Do a search of the offroad and raised dakota message boards, there is a decent amount of information there. I don't know the websites off hand but I think one of them is www.utahwest.com or something like that. They did one on a gen II.
