Subject: Warped Brakes IP: Logged
Message: I saw a post a while back about problems with warped brake rotors and drums. I've had a vibration for about the last 5,000 miles under braking on my 2000 cc and suspected the same thing. I took to the dealership and they refused to cover it under warranty, said it was part of normal wear - yeah right!
So, finally now - at 37k miles I got it into the break shop and they confirmed it. The front rotors were warped, but I had 75% of the pads left. Had them go ahead and replace the rotors and pads and everything is great now.
The mechanic said the rotors Dodge uses from the factory are very thin and prone to warping - he said you normally can't even turn them if needed because they are so thin. Hopefully the new rotors are better quality......

Message: I had about 80% on my pads at 16,000 miles,
and my rotors were shot. my brother and I
turned them at his shop, and yes, they are
warped again (2000 miles later) the rotors on
the dakotas were not made with weight in
mind. I guess it was a design flaw, and as
they are not responsible for doing warranty
work on brakes, a very easy flaw to ignore.
I'm gonna go with some stillen cross drilled
rotors in a few thousand miles, hopefully they
will be a little more heavy duty.

Message: At 22, 000 miles I was noticing a vibration and took it in and got everything turned front and back (yes they turn the drums). If you look in your warranty book, brakes are covered only for the 1st year or 12,000 miles. I have had my truck for 13 months and have put 26,000 miles on it, but I haven't done anything to wear the brakes out too bad. If they go bad again soon, I will go with new rotors, probably the cross drilled like D.
