Message: I have a 93' Dodge Dakota Sport. 4-cyl, stick. It has 202,000 one owner highway miles. Runs perfect. I bought it last March for $500 in good shape. It has always been taken care of and it shows. Synthetic oil since new. Had a new clutch, alternator, all brake parts put on before I bought it. I did have a wiring problem that it woudn't start after it got hot, but it turned out to be a bad connection. The floor carpet does get wet after it rains on the passenger side, which I understand is a common problem on these. How many of you guys have high mile(200K+) Dakota's? I am trying do decide whether to keep it or not or whether it could turn into a real money pit like the 89'Dakota I had.

Message: If you have anything that makes it to 200k mile I'd say thats pretty darn reliable. Would I keep it ? That depends. How does it run? Has the tranny been rebuilt? how bout the clutch? Ball joints? The point is when you get that kind of mileage stuff goes bad and needs replacing. And its a 4 banger besides. I wouldn't put any serious money into it drive it untill something too expensive breaks.

Message: I bought a 89' dakota 3.9L v6 auto a cuple months ago, has 194k (current mileage) and I put on about 3.5k on it sense I bought it. Runs great, lots of get up very reliable. All Ive done to it is tranny pan gasket, O2 sensor, oil pressure sending unit, new thermostat, and I had the shop put in a right freeze plug. It's been very good to me and I love it. I'm hoping it lasts through highschool and beyond so I can get a new motorcycle in 2 years instead of a new truck.

Message: I have a 89 Sport 4x4 with 183,000 miles, runs good, I am 2nd owner got it in 95 with 83,000 miles. Outside of normal things (plugs, oil, differentials and transmission changed annually), I have only replaced heater core, Water pump twice, Radiator twice, Front CV joints once, brakes several times, exhaust, left exhaust manifold once (it is leaking again) and had roof repainted and windshield replaced. Truck looks and runs good. Was my daily driver until July. Currently for sale, located in Indiana.
In June I purchased a 95 CC,V-8,4x4 with 45,000 original miles. I am 3rd owner, first two were old men who were friends. I hope to have as good of luck out of this one as last one.

Message: I agree with previous posters. Drive it until something realy expensive breaks(engine, transmission). I would change all fluids to synthetic and forget about them. The transmission especialy.I would run a thicker oil like 20W50 or 15W50 synthetic in warm months and 10W30 dureing winter months. Inline engines always last longer then V configuration engines. Goodluck!!!

Message: I feel the Dodge Dakota's are very reliable. I bought mine new in 95 and I am coming up on 164,000 miles. It has been A strong dependable truck, I had to replace the radiator and have the channel above the side windows resealed, and A couple batteries.
I am still getting 18 MPG with my 5.2 5 spd.
