Subject: Options to order IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking for your thoughts and input on three options that I've been wrestling with on my 2003 factory order:
1. Bodyside mouldings. Most trucks I see don't have them but it seems like they would help against door dings. How do they look with the 2-tone paint?
2. Limited slip on a 2WD. We typically don't get a lot of snow in the winter so driving is generally good. I'm not off-roading with it either. Would this be a good option or can I get by without it?
3. 3.55 vs 3.92. Does it make a huge difference? What are the pro's and con's?

Message: I got the 3.55, and I wish I had the 3.92s. LSD should be standard.

Message: What is the difference between the 3.55 and 3.92? Is the LSD needed if not offroading or limited snow in winter?

Message: I just picked up an 03 yesterday. It is a 4x4 QC 4.7 manual. It has the 3.55 which I think is well suited for the truck. I had the same on my 98 V6 4x2 cc, and they initally seem about the same in power since the 98 was alot lighter with smaller tires, but the more I drive it, the stronger everything feels, and I haven't really pushed it at all. it is just a trade off between power and fuel economy. I about 70mph at 2000 rpms, 10 mph more than the 98. hopefully mileage will be about the same, though unlikely.

Message: Considering the ease at which I can spin the rears of a LSD, I don't wannna know what an open would be like. And the 3.92's would keep the Dakota in a better part of the power band while cruising.

Message: Imo, the body molding looks good on a two tone as my wife and I both have that.
She has the lsd on her 2wd and likes it. I goofed though and should have got the 3.92 rear for her truck like I have on mine. The 6 feels like a dog in the qc. Course I shouldn't be comparing it to my 4.7 :-P
Pros 3.92 allows faster take offs and a larger trailer weight at the cost of more gas used.
3.55 allows a slower take off, less trailer weight and better gas mileage.

Message: I have an 01 CC with 4.7 auto and 3.92 LSD. I occasionally tow a trailer, so definitely wanted the 3.92, and with a V8 in a Dak you'll want the LSD option. Mileage runs consistently at 15mpg overall, which right now is about 75%city and 25% highway miles--and I'm having fun with the V8. If you never plan on towing anything of substance the 3.55 will do fine, but get the 3.92 for any kind of towing. Also, you didn't say if you're going auto or stick. My guess would be that stick with 3.92 will probably give same mileage as auto with 3.55.
Best,
DG
