Subject: Tire Pressure?

this may sound dumb, but how much pressure do you guys keep in your tires during just normal driving conditions? I'm talking dry highway and interstates. These are factory size tires, the sidewall says 50 psi maximum, but there's only 35 psi in the tires. Should I change it up or down?

The tire pressure on the side of the tire indicates MAXIMUM pressure recommended by the tire manufacturer. This pressure is usually different from what the manufacturer of the truck recommends. I have 40 psi in all my tires and the truck drives like a car. Set the tire pressure to what you feel comfortable with keeping in mind what Dodge recommends. Remember improper tire pressure can cause premature wear, and could be dangerous.

Another question, should i air up or down for winter driving? We get some tough ones up here in SD and I'll be driving on snow and ice most of the time.

For good mileage on the highway, go with 40-44psi ... for good traction drag racing, let the rear down to 20psi or so, keep the front at 44 psi.

In the winter, I go with 35psi, or even 30psi .. it fluctuates a lot depending on the ambient air temp. though so you have to keep checking them.

hope that helps

Canucker & SDakotaDude,

NEVER EVER LOWER STREET TIRE PRESSURE FOR DRAG RACING!!!!! You will damage your tires, reduce your overall contact patch and increase rolling resistance. Your ass end will end up skidding all over the place when you launch. The only tires that will function safely and correctly under reduced PSi loads are drag slicks. NO STREET TIRES!!! Damn folks, do you ever read the info that comes with tires when you buy them? Street tires have a minimum PSi safe loading as well as a maximum. I don't want to sound harsh, but you'll damage your trucks and maybe even hurt yourselves lowering tire pressures for racing. Be smart, and follow PSi and loading instructions from the tire manufacturers.

First thing is what size tires do you have? If they are the R265/70R16 then you need to place 30psi in them as per the information packet states that in the glove box with the exception of when hauling heavy loads then raise the rear only to 35psi.

TRUCK AS 16K ON IT AND AFTER COMPARING THE SPARE TO THE REST I SAY THERE ABOUT HALF GONE. WHAT TYPE OF MILEAGE HAVE OTHERS GOTTON OUT OF THESE TIRES?
