Subject: Rough Idle Problem - help IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose this problem. At idle my Dak ('97 V6 2wd) will run rough after about 30 seconds and sounds like it will probably die out - I haven't risked it yet to find out though. When it starts idleing rough and I put it into neutral or park the engine will suddenly rev and it will eventually idle a little rough in park.
This started the other day when I put a new stereo head unit in. With the stock unit out and the new one not in yet I drove without the negative battery cable connected tight. I thought that must've been the problem but I ended up resetting the PCM again and installing the stereo (which is hooked up fine) and it still does this idle thing.
The truck hasn't had a tune-up since 50,000 miles I guess ( it has 115,000 now ) I don't know how old the plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor are. The PCV was fine - I replaced it anyway but no difference. Air Filter is new. I don't think the timing belt has ever been changed or checked/adjusted.
Any thoughts would be cool - thanks.

Message: Not sure that it will fix your problem, but if you know for sure that the plugs haven't been changed for 65k I would try that first. Only going to cost you about $20 for a new dist. cap, rotor and plugs. You can pickup a new set of wires for about $30. That's were I'd start anyway.
