Subject: Need a Muffler - suggestions IP: Logged
Message: Alright, I was going to go with an MBRP Split rear cat. But, I've decided for the time being, I just want to throw on a muffler to get some more sound, and pay off my credit cards. So.. Im asking for suggestions on a good loud muffler that's not too loud inside the cab. Also, what kind of tip would I want to use. If I can, id like to keep it going out the side like it is stock, just get a nice shiney one. But, I dont know if im going to get the sound like that. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Message: You should definitly go with DYNOMAX ULTRA-FLOW Stainless steel muffler.
It have a very nice deep sound. It is barely noticable in the cab. The model number is #17263, and it should fit right on your stock pipes. I would recommend a 3" - 4" Stainless steel tip.
Either slash cut or rolled with slash cut.

Message: I personally went with the DynoMax Super Turbo p/n 17748. Its 2 1/2 center inlet, to 2 1/2 offset outlet(similar to stock). This muffler is 3" shorter than stock, so in order to use stock tail, I bought a 2 1/2" ID to 2 1/2" OD sleeve. Fits like a glove. I also bought a univ. hanger for the muffler side. The tail pipe hangers line right up. Total cost $53 and sum change. Bought the muffler @ Summit for $47. bucks to my door.
Oh the sound, you notice it slightly when you get on it, sounds great outside. Look around here, someone listed a soundwav file somewhere, or try Dynomax's site.
Good Luck

Message: Hey, thanks for the advice. I think im going to check out the one that you were talking about SLT+ because its stainless. I do have a question though. Well, a couple. You say it should bolt right up, but im thinking im gunna have to get a sleeve for the connection off the stock pipe, as well, where's a good place to get a slash cut tip that comes out so it looks pretty much stock. Thanks!

Message: Yes, it should fit right on the existing pipes. But you'll need some additional piping since the stock exhaust is longer than the DYNOMOAX. I would suggest you take it to a muffler shop, and let them install it. It cost me $50 for installation and the extra piping. Mine DYNOMAX is welded right on to the stock pipe for the best air flow. I got mine tips from the muffler shop, and it is a magnaflow Stainless steel 3" rolled/slash cut. A good place to get exhaust tips would be GIBSON.

Magnaflow have some good lookin tips too

Message: I have the 5.9L. I got the Stainless steel DYNOMAX ULTRA-FLOW. The different is that the Stainless looks alot nicer than the welded. And stainless steel wont rust like the welded. Other than that, its the same.

Message: If you have the 4.7 I would suggest no muffler. You can replace the the muffler with some pipe and retain the the factory tailpipe or have some one bend you some pipe over the frame rail and dump your exhaust out before the rear tire. I wouldn't go with a "down spout" after the third cat, too noisy in the cab. Good Luck
