I have a 2000 3.9 club cab. I tried getting the shifter knob off. When i took the cap off and loosened the nut the whole shift lever turned. I just tightened it back up and let it be. Does anyone have any tips on what to do? Thank you for any help.

Hey CW. I just went out and I am unable to hold the knob in my hand, the whole shaft spins. Even while using pliers and vise grips(with a rag to protect). What is the other end hooked to that it allows it to spin? Thanks

Pretty sure that it is just threaded to the shifter stub on top of the trans. You may have remove it. I haven't had one that tight before.
