Its your opinion on what you get. But put it this way. Why settle for less??... a Ford Ranger has NOTHING on a Dakota. And if u want a bulge, whynot just keep that Dak and buy a New Hood??... seems like a smarter idea to me!!

Trust me stick with the Dakota , My dad has an '01 Edge with a 4.0/5 speed/ and 3.73 trac-lok and my '99 318 /auto/ 3.55 Dakota Club Cab will run away from it with no problem. I let him have the Dakota for a Saturday about a month ago and the only thing he had to say was "Damn , I should have got a Dakota." For what the Ranger cost he could have got an R/T.

I must admit I was going to buy a 02 ranger but Ford doesn't even offer the 5spd 4.0 in the regular cab anymore. I tried to get a couple of different dealers to special order me one but they wouldn't do it. You have to get an extended cab auto, just to get the 4.0 in the 2wd rangers for 2002. And I'm certainly not going to settle for the weak 3.0. That is why I have decided to order a 03 regular cab dakota 5spd 4.7 with 3.92 gears. There is tons of options for the dakota but not for the ranger. Ford doesn't care about selling customers what they want. I say piss on Ford. And piss all over the ranger.

Bailey, your completely right! That is the exact reason I'm driving a Dakota and not an F-150. You can't get the big motor with a 5-speed. Ford can't expect to keep loyalty if they're going to let their customers by another brand because they offer the configuration they want. I'm glad I did, though. The Dak is perfect for me.

I have never seen a chick get excited over a Ranger but I have seen plenty go nuts over a Dakota and it's owner.

i had a ranger before my dak and i really like my dak but as far as the power go's the new ranger has 212 hp and my 96 cc 318 has 220 i could be wrog but that is what i was told i am just happy that you are not looking at a s-10

Being a FORMER Ranger owner I can only say one thing. RANGERS SUCK! I had a '99 Ext Cab 4X4 with the 4.0L engine and it sucked. Ford actually had to replace the engine once because of a condition called "marbling" which is where the engine sounded like shaking marbles in a tin can. The second engine hesitated until they found out that they installed the cam shaft sensor 180 degrees off!! All they kept telling me was "it takes about 300 miles for the hesitation to go away".. BS!!. (it would hesitate to the point of stalling in traffic) After about 6 months the second engine "marbled" worse than the first!! That's when Ford decided they wanted nothing more to do with that engine and told everyone experiencing the problem that it was a "characteristic" of that particular engine and they wern't going to do anything else for it. I told Ford that I wasn't going to continue to pay for a peice of crap, that's when I traded it for my Dak... BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!! I would be very cautious before I buy another fraud, I mean Ford as they don't seem to be responsive to their customer's concerns.
Sorry for the long post but I would never buy another Ranger!!

yes, the Ford ranger edge is similar to the s-10 EXTREME, its just got some flashey body work and 5 hp more than the standard, i think it has a 5 speed though, my be the big difference
